Thought it was very balanced (until we built up a big lead). Also glad they gave Joe the option to make those calls at the line, which Joe obviously did a fantastic job of.

But damn if it wasn't refreshing to see us throw slants again against 1v1 coverage. Let our big and fast receivers use that to their advantage. Now we just need to get Foster involved if the O-line can hold their own without TE help.

edit.. also, watching the FSU game last night, our offense looked so much better with the old man calling the shots than whatever that cute tempo shite was that Taggart's running. Jury is still out on our O as it's just one game, but was a good start against a solid defense.

We ran more slants Sunday than I remember Canada / Cam running in an entire season. Hell even when we had Jarvis and Odell most of our inside routes were deeper digs. It was so nice to see those receivers work the middle of the field.

Yep. The intermediate passing game was something we haven't really seen since Mett. I'd like to see him start to work in some more screens and swing passes. We threw one to Lanard on the first play, it worked pretty well but then we never went back to it.

It was great to see the slants, and Burrow was hitting his targets, too.

Felt weird to not wince every time the ball was thrown like the past few years.

I agree. I think they tried to run one more screen pretty late in the game that was set up well downfield but their D-lineman batted the ball down.

It sure is amazing how much easier the running game is without 8 men in the box.

He did a great job calling after we had a big lead. The purpose of the game was to WIN not make a bunch of X-Box legends happy by singing the ball all over the place. He controlled the clock thereby denying the opponent time to come back. The passing game obviously needs work so there was no need to risk a disastrous pick 6. To quote the midget in the East, he took the air out of the ball.

Red zone plays left a lot to be desired.

Also wasn’t a fan of run run pass

The only thing lacking in the play calls were the lack of passes to the tight ends.

Other than that, it was nice to see a lot of the field utilized

Very hard to judge a scheme when the OLine looks like we did.

I am confident we’ll look good because I am Not sure there is any system joe wouldn’t look good in.

This is a pro style system. We will spread the field with WR but it isn’t a spread system. I’m ok with that, I have Said often that it makes no sense to hire an NFL Wr coach, an NFL OL coah, a RB coach from a Pro style college team and and an OC who has only ever run a prostyle sysytem to try and run Baylor’s offense.

With a good QB we should look good if the OL play improves. Allowing our QB to make calls at the line helps a lot

Not arguing that we shouldn't have gone more run heavy like we did, just stating that it was balanced until we got that 4 score lead. In fact I'm sure Ed probably told him to go that route if I had to guess.
Personally, I thought we should've continued what we were doing until a few minutes into the 4th quarter at least.

No he did not, it was to conservative. We are not going to beat elite teams in the SEC with the play calling I saw Saturday. They got up and shut everything down.

Joe also did a great job of throwing the ball away when he was pressured and no one was open. I was extremely impressed with the poise he showed

Definitely agree but it wasn't that the play wasn't called. Joe just wasn't looking for the TE. Moreau was wide open on at least a couple of occasions when he threw it to somebody else. One would have been for a TD but Foster didn't come open until late so I don't really blame him for that.
