This! Ed didn't know how to handle success. It's one thing to grind your way to the top of the mountain, and something totally different once you are there. He fell into the common trap of forgetting what got him there. He made bad hires, and when things went sideways, he tried to bull his way through it. I am proud of O, for the successes he had, but it was time for him to go.

The man can coach, he just can't head coach

He's a good Dline coach - if he wants to remain in coaching that's the best place for him to be.

Thankful Coach O got Joe and the boys together for 2019! Well worth it. Even if he brought us 2020 and 2021 shite seasons. We will see how long it takes to turn around the shite show aftermath, but SO FAR, it’s still worth it.
Really feels like BK is the right fit to shape LSU back to championship form.

Orgeron did not have the coaching coattails to just pick and chose new hires. It sounds like Woodward was too busy salivating over hiring his replacement to give him any options.
Having said that, LSU would have been back to being a 10-11 win team this year had he stayed with a strong young nucleus to build around. Many of the Orgeron haters think that would be a major accomplishment for Kelly and are instead predicting 8-9 wins.

Dear ladies of Miami,
If you're at a gas station filling up, and a gravelly- voiced man approaches you with a pick up line, tell him
"you a couillion, yeah".

Anybody know if Joe Brady wants to volunteer with me?

quote:O lucked into 2019, every rational football fans knows that.
I think Joe had more to do with that particular season than Coach O.
Now, he did bring in Burrow and Brady, so O does get credit. But it was lightning in a bottle, and remember he wasted Burrow, Jefferson, Chase, CEH, and the entire O line in 2018 under Ensminger's offense.
So Burrow and Brady, along with legacy DC Aranda, was the reason for 2019. When they all left after 2019, we saw what happened.

100% Agree, But he’s not a good head coach and that’s what I’m referencing.
I’m not sure I’d agree with this statement either? The man had all types of shite hitting him at the same time. Most of us would have flopped in that situation and we most definitely would have acted out. Now he’s the HC at a major university and his actions have consequences but he was fired.
Look the remaining 2016 season when he took over was much much improved. We were whipping people. While we did lose the tough games, we finally whipped up in the teams we should have. 2017 wasn’t the best but that was his first year putting things together, like it is for BK this year. We’ll see if BK can do better with more talent than O had. By 2018 he had NFL players here sprinkled across the roster but especially at the positions that plagued us with Les Miles. QB, WR, and DL. Our OL was improving slowly. In 2019 his fire was still burning, hope was rising, players were training hard and I’ve never seen a more confident team. That stemmed from coach O. He wanted them to play with that swag and they did. He let the offense loose and they responded. He brought in a smart young play caller / WR trainer / QB trainer / Offense designer and let him make some small changes in the offense and call plays. Guys that could have went wrong really fast. But it didn’t because O pressed the right buttons.
He may not be able to press the right buttons every time but I really believe that if he was left here, he would have eventually fixed the issues and won again. Not in 5 years but in like 2-3 years IF he actually wanted it and the fact of the matter is that after that championship, COVID, the fans turning on him for every little thing and all the racist BS. I think he was just ready to make a change and felt like he proved what he needed to prove at LSU and if the fans still didn’t have his back, they never would so his fire went out and he cashed it in. I think he honestly tried to repair it but once he saw that it was a failed attempt, that was it for him.
I don’t think he’s a horrible coach but he’s probably not the coach you want at one of the elite schools, no. He just can’t handle the pressure and he can’t consistently put a staff together to be successful. At one of the elite schools, you will have to continually replace staff members who get better positions, it comes with it. That’s my take.

Jesus, do people not realize how a program is put together?
Actually. I’ve said this before. Bebe had the perfect storm to catch some lightning in a bottle that season.
But it didn’t “fall in his lap”.
The man went outside the box, he found our kicker up in the NE (forget his name), he brought Brady in and when nobody really knew who he was, he brought burrows down and be brought in several other key components to that team.
Bebe is not perfect, but put some respect on his name for putting together the best team in CFB history.
Some people on this board won’t let it go. The guy went Thru a divorce & mid-life crisis at the same time & could not replenish the quality coaches he lost, but Jesus, let it go, let’s move on…
