It’s always been bullshite IMO.
The players should have their own identity. Bert Jones was an iconic #7 long before the more recent crop of stars.
If fans get accustomed to seeing a player star in his first several years at LSU wearing one number why should he switch to another number that hasn’t been his?
Should anyone else ever wear #9 after Burrow?

It seems more recent years these number traditions have gone to players who have ended up not living up to the hype

coincidentally, right around the time O took over deciding who wore them.

until then the previous 18s all voted on it.
now O gives out 2 of them.

7 was “passed” down from one toe next. As in Peterson gave it to Mathieu. not from a coach with a presentation and a tweet

Chaisson earned the right to wear 18. Both had a large number of starts

Did he?

Or we just need to cut Ed and find a coach that knows how to give them out properly

It’s a team tradition. frick what the fans think
the number 7 was just recently started and for what it’s worth everybody that’s gotten 7 after Peterson has been a jinx or a bust

7 definitely needs to go.

18 can stay, but enough with the offense and defense. If you feel it necessary, then one player can be 18 and that's enough.

As long as players earn the numbers it’s cool

definitely know this is one of the much smaller issues that need to be addressed and taken care of but I hope he puts an end to that this off season. Leaders will lead, they don't need some special number to do so. And we don't need to give some guy #7 to feed his ego and make him feel extra special.

You want the coach to stop a PLAYER started tradition?

Some of you look way too far into the #7 & #18 tradition. As though, with out it, other playmakers or leaders would emerge.
