Deshaun(sp?) might get a shot in the OF over Dean (who would obviously at least play DH).

Dean WILL play in the field, either OF or 1B. Dean need to show pro scouts that he can play in the field and this was a condition of his returning this year.

Matty Ott as a possible starter,

Assuming that Chad Jones plays baseball this year, then Jones can close and Ott can move to a starting position.

There is no question in my mind that Jones has both the stuff and the attitude to be a great closer for us.

Kyle Koenman-1st team all american in 08, hit 50 HR's combined in JUCO his freshman and sophmore year. Very lower body and can drive the ball. He will see immediate playing time somewhere whether it's 1B or DH.

Mitch Mormann-Been drafted twice by MLB teams. Is 6'6 so his delieverly is shorter to the plate which makes it look like he's throwing that much faster. Has run his fastball from 88-92mph on average. Can be a quality SEC starter if he mixes in his off speed pitches.

Forrestt Garrett-The gem of this class. The lefty was ranked before his senior season as the 5th best LHP HS pitcher in the draft. Has one of the best changeups coming out of HS. He hurt his arm so I wouldn't be suprised if he's reshirted. Hopefully he pitches sometime in 2010.

Thanks Josh.

Thanks for posting, Adam. I do have to agree with the comments that Josh made. There are so many factors and so much talent on this team that penciling in the starters at this point is a real challenge. For What it's worth, here are my thoughts on the starting line-up:

1B- Blake Dean(SR)- Coach promised him the opportunity to play a position and I believe that this is where he ends up.
2B- Tyler Hanover (SO) - Pretty close to a lock
SS- Austin Nola (SO) - Absolute lock.
3B- Someone whose last name starts with the letter "D" (Didier/Dozar/Delatte).
LF- Leon Landry (JR) - IF he hits for average.
CF- Mikie Mahtook (SO)
RF- Trey Watkins (JR)/Johnny Dishon (JR)
C- Micah Gibbs (JR)- Lock
DH- Kyle Koeneman / Matt Gaudet (SR)

Additional Note:

If Trey Watkins is as disruptive on the base paths as advertised, he could help replace some of the SBs that JMitch provided last year.

Koeneman will be your 1B if Dean doesn't work out, but I think Dean should be good at that position.

There will be much competition for 3B. Will be interesting to see who locks it down.

I'm not even attempting to address the pitching rotation. Renaudo will start Fridays; that's all that I'll commit to.

If Chad Jones doesn't leave early for the NFL, it increases the possibility of Ott moving to the starting line-up, but doesn't make it a lock. Having the one-two punch of those two out of the pen late in games would be nice to have again next season.

Even with the MLB losses, this team could be scary good if Ross improves and one of the other pitchers steps up as a solid Sat/Sun starter.

I agree with all of that

Didier is going to be in there somewhere with his lefthanded bat. Kid can mash.

here's an article about Florida's recruiting class, it doesn't look like the draft hit them as hard as it hit us, should be another tough SEC weekend with them next year.

Moore is still at State right now as a student only. In January, he will transfer somewhere. No one knows where yet.

Do you really think Mormonn can come into the Saturday slot? Apparently, he is a one pitch pitcher. He does throw strait gas, but lacks a breaking ball. That'll get eaten alive in the SEC unless Grewe can find him a power slider (in which case, hello 2010 1st round)

Great forecast by the way.

Shane Reidie will be a key player/pitcher for us next season. He has the potential to become a week-end starter - pitch a lot of innings.
