Just saying, what's the difference in starting for 2 innings & him getting in his normal bullpen session? This also sets Nola up for this wknd & next. Hell we threw Johnny Allstaff & still came w/i one run of beating the hottest team & a top 3 pitcher in the country.
I'm no CPM apologist, been very critical of him at times; but I think he (& Alan dunn) got this one right. Sorry for being such an insufferable prick

Not perfect but it was the best he could do at this point in this tournament especially given the fact that rain moved Gausman to pitch Friday instead of Saturday last week......I think if Gausman would have pitched that normal start on Thursday against USC then he probably would have went today.

How do you know it didn't?
You're whole problem in this thread is that you are thinking small picture here. What if, because we didn't burn any arms today, we are able to win the next 2 games and face MSU in the semifinals with a rested starter while they have to throw out their mediocre midweek starter because they burned out all their weekend arms?

Probably going to beat UK with Graveman and have Pollorena available for the championship game.
ETA stupid format you are right Pollorena would go in semis and they would have to throw someone that doesn't have a lot of starts on Sunday.

I've already stated that I have a problem with "giving up" a game. I know that sometimes, in the long run, it may be the best option. Just my nature, I suppose. And I know that throwing the entire staff is in no way conceding this game, and outside Bonvillian, they pitched very well.
Maybe I'm just being an argumentative prick because we lost.

Nola's outing today was a replacement for his bullpen session. There was never a chance that they were going to extend him. Try to see the big picture.

Because a win moves you on in a double elimination tournament and the effect is immediate. Some in this thread are attempting to evaluate the efficacy of the strategy on what if it works to perfection and we win out.
Someone could just as easily say what if we won today and won out. The strategy by PM was correct regardless of result. No need to press someone in short rest in a game that is likely meaningless. Wins and losses here are immaterial and Gausman will get his work tomorrow.

No problem here.
LSU will beat OM tomorrow like an ugly stepchild, and take care of business from there. If they don't win the SEC tourney, it's no big deal...not like we haven't done that before.

After getting over the irritability caused by losing and the frustration of seeing our "fans" start bitching that the game was over as soon as we went down a run, I think I'm ready to admit I may have been a bit over the top with my sarcasm and facetiousness in this thread.
All in all I think the staff did a great job today, and we should bounce back nicely from here on out
