hmm... I think we see: Gausman Eades McCune (or someone that pitched today) Nola (should we reach Sunday)

You're right....I just think we wasted Johnny All Staff's best outing against a guy he couldn't beat with our offense.

Because we are going to need this kid later this weekend and next weekend, so why ruin him? The big picture here is Omaha...

so we don't need to win in Hoover, so why pitch Gausman?

Setting the staff for next week was more important than this game. It wasn't worth bringing anyone back on short rest. So nothing was "wasted".

Bc he's been pitching once a week the past 12 weeks. You really wanna mess up our aces routine a week before the most important outing of the year?

Why risk it though? Especially since he pitched Saturday.

Very good point.....he basically pitched a BP session today.....but at the same time at some point in this post season I bet Nola or Eades or maybe both will be called upon to pitch effectively on very short rest, but I get you point on the risk. Like I said earlier we probably did the only thing we could today.........I mean how often will you see a 7 seed in the SEC tourney the caliber of that State team.

You throw Gausman so he doesn't go two weeks without pitching.

Exactly, & he'll be ready come Sunday if we are playing. Then again on regional Sunday 7 days later.

I think State is going to win their 4th in a row vs the Cats myself and I say we see UK on Friday.....but UK could pull it together again I suppose.

that's really the only acceptable answer if you think the SEC tournament is a waste of time

Yep, hell I'm a lil worried about Nola not pitching much for a couple weeks if we don't make a deep run this wknd. Maybe we see Nola Saturday instead to make sure he gets work.you don't want him going on Sunday of regionals having pitched 2 innings in 16 days, but I do understand why he only pitched 2 today.

The tournament isn't a complete waste of time, obviously they want to play well and win. But it isn't so important that you run the risk of wrecking your staff or throwing things out of whack for next weekend.

You want to win, but not at all costs. The season isn't on the line.

don't be a dick

actually, I'm being facetious, because I don't agree with pulling Nola today after just 2 easy innings. The general line of reasoning is that was done because these games arent important. I disagree with that thinking, I like to see players and coaches go into every game with a sense of urgency. Honkus has made the only good points I've seen in this thread, that Nola will be ready for this Sunday and more importantly Regional Sunday, and Gausman needs to get work anyways (MOT said the same).

I guess had the bats come through it wouldn't matter.

Neither. Last year they went 1-2 and in 10 they weren't a national seed.

You really wanna bring back a freshmen (who had to skip a start this yr due to arm fatigue) on 4 days rest for meaningless game?

You're wrong about that sir

maybe he shouldn't have started on 4 days rest, and I disagree that the game is meaningless

Guess you've never heard of a bullpen session... See pitchers at this level (& the pros), throw what are called "bullpen sessions" in between their normally scheduled starts. They typically get 30-40 pitches in to keep the arm loose (or lose if you're a ranter).

Do I need to explain what the bullpen is?
