Not surprised.
Crews struggled toward the end of the regular season last year. Came around deep into the postseason.

How does his relative struggle last year make you not surprised? Strange statement.

Crews is hitting .224 with a .296 on-base percentage and two home runs in 12 games. He’s 1 for 8 with seven strikeouts since he returned from the injury. For the season, he has just three walks and 20 strikeouts, a concerning ratio considering that his bat-to-ball skills made him such a highly touted prospect.
Holy actual frick. These are horrible numbers

Reminder Wyatt Langford is a MLB starter for the defending world champions. Crews is struggling in AA. I tried to tell everyone on draft day.

Not everyone adapts as quickly to professional baseball as Skenes. Skenes is an animal.
He is, but he will have his “welcome to the Bigs” moment. It’s all fun and games until Mike Trout blasts one over the wall.

This is why college baseball is not that popular. It’s single A level play.
Yep, I remember a former LSU player on one of the local radio shows years ago and asked him if what was the perception of so many, if college baseball was the equivalent of AA ball.
He literally laughed. He said maybe a Friday night top of the conference SEC matchup of number one starters, otherwise not close.

Anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves. Even in semi-pro, these are a selected class from the best that college had to offer. Which should put into perspective how hard the MLB is. That guy batting .200 this year would absolutely kill any college pitcher, and it’s not a debate.

Crews vs Bregman, what were people saying pre draft?
Posted on 5/2/24 at 7:49 am to Saunson69
I mean 100 mph and 4 complimentary pitches with great control translates easier than hitting.
It’s a lot harder to hit stuff you have never seen

Proof that baseball is hard

I know he’s busy, but he should get CJJ to evaluate his AB’s and give him some pointers

His average was at about .275 when he got injured, and since he came back he's 1 for 8 with 7 strikeouts. His timing is off, and they didn't play him last night which lets you know they think he is not healthy yet (they don't sit top draft picks on the bench in the minor leauges because of performance). He was coming along nicely before the injury set him back. His strike out rate was a little high, but it wasn't silly like it has been since he tried to come back from the injury.
Everything is still a small sample size.

Crews has always been aggressive at the plate.
He must not have watched Crews play at LSU very often. Crews was a tremendously patient hitter. Had he played 4 seasons, he would have had the all-tile base on balls record. As it stands, his 71 BB last season was 3rd all time and his 152 career BB is 7th all time. The 6 players ahead of him either played 4 years or were traditional leadoff hitters.

he’s played
12 games and had a 7 game stretch where he was hitting .344
he’s fine numbers will work out

Crews is one of the best college players I have ever seen.
I'd be really surprised if he wasn't a good pro eventually

Langford destroyed minor league pitching last year after he was drafted
He made the Rangers out of spring training and hasn't done much while with the MLB team so far. Rangers may have rushed him too soon.
Look at Holliday with Orioles who they sent back down.
It's not easy!
As good as Skenes has been and he deserves his MLB opportunity, it's a whole nother level in MLB
