I think Paul Skenes was the best player in the country this year but Jac has stupid numbers if your just looking at a stat sheet
Also he's 5th in the SEC in hits and first in the country for Homeruns.
It would be a damn shame for the golden spikes if they didn't associate their name with Dylan Crews though. Arguably the best collegiate baseball player so far this millennium.

On the mound, Caglianone is 7-3 with a 3.78 ERA over 16 starts. He has allowed the third-fewest hits of any qualified pitcher in the SEC and is holding opponents to a fourth-lowest .184 batting average against.

Was he, though?
Yes.
Check the stats above this post. Nearly 100 points above on BA and OBP is huge when defining the best player.
Home runs are great but look at total run production.
Crews 87R 17HR 63RBI
Caglianone .69R 31HR 84RBI
runs responsible for is runs plus RBIs minus HRs (subtract HRs because they show up as both runs and RBIs)
Crews 133 run responsible for
Caglianone 122 Runs responsible for
Crews has the better numbers in all but 3 categories.
Crews .432BA 95H 87R 17HR 63RBI 40SO 61BB .573OBP .736SLG% SB 6
Caglianone .337BA 84H 69R 31HR 84RBI 48SO 15BB .401OBP .779SLG% SB 4

Insane that Dylan only has 6 steals. Dude easily should have had 20 bags this season with 61 walks

Hard to risk running when white is batting behind you. I am certain that had something to do with those numbers

Pulling for Dylan. That he leads the SEC in hits and walks is crazy.

He’s such a good base stealer it’s hardly a risk though. Tanks would probably be at 100+ rbi if we were more aggressive on the base paths.
As for the award it’s still up for grabs - each guy has gaudy stats; it’ll come down to who shines the brightest in the Supers and CWS.

I will riot if they give it to Jac,

I know its a yearly award but if you look at Crews' full body of work since he stepped on campus he certainly deserves it more
I agree, but it’s not like Skenes was just some middling role player the last 2 years.

Can’t believe Ben McDonald is the only LSU player to ever win the award. Would’ve figured someone from LSU would’ve won it in the 90s with all those championship years.

Yeah, but it is the only explanation I can come up with. It may have been something the coaching staff emphasized.

I don't disagree here but I cannot think of any other reason. The team as a whole did not run much so maybe the coaches emphasized this.

No you’re right: Johnson seems to think the running game is largely unnecessary with great sluggers… I tend to think it just puts more pressure on the pitcher/defense - distracts the pitcher, gets defenders out of position and, cuts down on double plays etc.
College catchers/infielders just don’t throw out runners at a particularly high rate.

Jac is a weekend starter in the SEC also. That will be the argument on his side. Not saying I agree, but that holds some weight in the argument and is very impressive at the level he can do both.
It would be one thing if he was their ace, but he's probably their third best
starter?
I think Skenes has been much more dominant at what he does as well as Crews.
