Congrats to both, one of them will definitely win it over the Florida player.
Flip a coin, both are deserving.

I know its a yearly award but if you look at Crews' full body of work since he stepped on campus he certainly deserves it more

Since Skenes won POY, I hope Crews wins this one.

I will riot if they give it to Jac, I understand the dude hit 30 bombs but Crews was 100% the more consistent and better overall player this year. Also it would make zero sense for Crews to win SEC Player of the Year but Jac be the Golden Spikes Player of the Year.

Also that Crews has done it for three years. It’s still insane how consistently good he’s been

Just an unbelievable player! Best position player to come through LSU.

Jac is a weekend starter in the SEC also. That will be the argument on his side. Not saying I agree, but that holds some weight in the argument and is very impressive at the level he can do both.

In 69 innings he has 49 walks. Hes brought his era down a good bit lately but hes been extremely inconsistent this year as a pitcher. 49 walks in 69 innings is not good at all.

So if they're going to use the fact he was their third starter as well as hitting 30 bombs as the reason to give him the award instead of being the best pitcher in the country or the best Center Fielder in the Country then there is something wrong with the voters.

Paul Skenes hit bombs last year. That should count for something

I kid, I kid.

He also had 81K in the 69IP with a .184 BA against and 7 wins on the season. I can pick out stats too. I agree he was inconsistent all season but it is still him doing both at a high level.

For what it's worth, I agree with you that he shouldn't win it simply because he does both. Like I said above, that will be his argument.

Since it is a single season award I think it will likely go to Skenes. his numbers are just ridiculous. I think Crews would likely finish 2nd with Jac 3rd.

I wasn't even attacking you or your argument but okay it was at the voters if that is how they decide to vote. Hes an inconsistent pitcher and an elite bat vs Skenes being the best pitcher in the Country and Crews the best Position Player in the Country.

It's not a lifetime achievement award...nor should it be. It's a best player this season award.

If you are a finalist there are compelling reasons why all of these guys should be selected. I guess the only concern is if the LSU guys sort of cancel each other out. That is, some voters think Skenes is the best player. Others think Crews which then leads to a split-the-difference vote for the Florida player because he both hits and pitches.

Personally, I don't love selecting a starting pitcher for these types of awards because they don't play every day.

LSU has played 61 games this season. Skenes has only factored in 16 of those (or 26% of the total). Crews on the other hand has started and factored in all 61 games.

Sometimes a pitcher is just so dominant his performance trumps everyone else. And maybe that is the case for Skenes this year. But, IMO, if you have a position player who has put up great numbers I'm going to lean towards him as POY 99% of the time.

Yeah, Caglione really fell off the back end of the season too. His batting average is almost a full .100 points behind Crews and his OBP is only .401. He strikes out a lot and doesn't walk much. 48 Ks to only 15 BBs. Same story with him pitching. He has pretty big control issues with 49 walks in only 69 IP. His WHIP is 1.37. My biggest fear is he gets it simply because he's a two-way player.

Skenes should win this award over both of them with how dominant he's been all season. Leads the toughest conference in the country in every single meaningful pitching metric, and many of them aren't even close. His 0.79 WHIP is just stupid

Nationally Skenes ranks:

#4 ERA
#4 OppBA
#1 Ks (by 43)
#1 WHIP
#1 K:BB

I know it’s not what everyone wants to hear but cag has a solid shot at this.

He’s excellent at the plate and he’s a solid weekend starter in the SEC.

I think Skenes is going to get it, but I wouldn’t be shocked if cag got it.

Crews is the best overall player in the country, and does it every game, at a demanding position.

I love Skenes, but he’s dominant once a week.

Cag is legit at the plate, above average on the mound. And is deserving of the award as well.
Hitting homeruns isn’t the only stat to look at, nor what should win the award. The two way player and dominant at the plate is very impressive, 1B isn’t.

Overall I think it could go to Crews or Caglianone.

Crews .432BA 95H 87R 17HR 63RBI 40SO 61BB .573OBP .736SLG% SB 6
Caglianone .337BA 84H 69R 31HR 84RBI 48SO 15BB .401OBP .779SLG% SB 4

Yes.

Check the stats above this post. Nearly 100 points above on BA and OBP is huge when defining the best player.
