I said something to a lady last year when she kept holding one of those Verizon Wireless rollout scroll type things that said, "Geaux Tigers" on on eside of it. She would hold it up, blocking my view at the most random moments. I finally asked if she could put it away while the game was going on.
She complied but said something to her husband about what I had said.
Those things are to take home to the kids! I wanna see the game, don't we see enough advertisements on the scoreboard, etc.?

I was in the same position once in 2005..some old dude behind me put his hand on my shoulder. I took it off and flames shot out of my eyes and burnt his soul to a crisp.

It happens. In '06, my friend got us tickets to the Ole Miss game from his uncle on like the 45. Towards the end of the game, everyone was standing except for a few people behind us and one guy rudely told us to sit the frick down. Before any of us could say anything, a guy who seemed to be about 120 told the guy to stop being a pansy and stand up or to shut his damn mouth. Old dudes = Thugs.

I paid the same money as they did to attend the game, therefore I have the same right to either sit or stand as I deem appropriate.
Not necessarily.....thanks to TAF funds. Some people have actually paid alot more money, than those that get tickets to certain games. I agree with the craignettles post. Stand all fricking game if you're in the student section, but otherwise, get a feel for the section/people you're sitting by. No one should yell at you for big plays, 3rd/4th downs, etc., but if you're standing in the chairback section all game long, I can see someone saying something.

A guy stood in front of me once at Tiger stadium and when he turned around after I tapped his shoulder I hit him in the mouth. He didn't stand anymore.

Once again this topic is a thread to nowhere.

In short, I guess the "accepted practice" should prevail in the long run. In the student section that's standing all game. In other sections, it seems that standing for 3rd downs and other "important" or "big" situations is ok but standing all game isn't.

Like I said, whatever is for the benefit or what is the preference of the majority should trump. I'll give an example that I personally deal with:

My son (now 13) has had bad food allergies since he was young. He's allergic to such things as milk, eggs but especially penuts. We're talking like epi-pen allergic in some cases.

When we go to the game we can't sit too near anywone eating penuts. Just the smell from them will have his face turning red and eyes watering. But I never ask anyone to quite eating them. I figure if they sell penuts there people have a right to eat them.

Instead, we just: (1) don't go to very many games; (2) if someone on one side of us is eating penuts, we move my son to the seat farthest away; (3) take a break and go to the concession stands, rest room whatever for a few minutes till they finish eating them. (4) if it gets bad enough we would just leave.

I sometimes sit down in the first row behind the LSU bench.
The only way that you can see the field from my seats is if you stand up on on the bleachers. If you stand on the ground, or sit down you can't see the field.

At the Vandy game, this douche sitting a row behind me and probably about six seats down had cop come up to us and tell us that we had to sit down.

I was furious. Normally, I would have just told the guy to F off, but the cop stood there the rest of the game and watched us to make sure that we didn't stand. The guy wasn't handicapped or elderly.

As far as I am concerned, if you don't want to stand during the game, watch it at home (especially if you are sitting in an area with a limited field view)

That sucks for your son.

But it also has nothing to do with the issue of folks not being able to see thru another human being. If in fact I was the only one with a very rare eyesight problem where I could not see through a human...the thoughts of bitching about their lack of transparency would be silly.

Your son has a condition fairly rare. If the majority of folks had this reaction to peanuts (much like all folks lack the ability to see thru others) I would think folks would be careful and respectful with peanut use as it would be common.

Given that no one can see thru another, I would also think people would be respectful of obstructing their view. Of course, that is not the case of the "I paid for my ticket" crew.

Yes.

Hindered by respect for others and commonsense.

Comorbidities include: good hearted nature, concern for other wishes, ability to alter my own impulsive behavior so that I do not negatively influence others.

However, buying a ticket to an athletic event should cure me of all of it.

Of course those "real" chest thumping fans that insist on the spewing of shite will be cured of even going to the games with a bad season or two.
They will move on to the next BBD, and leave the rest of us to see the game like we always have.

this subject comes up a lot. what the hell is going on? when someone in front of me stands up, my reaction is automatic; i simply stand up. i didn't come to an LSU game to sit on my arse for three hours. i'm 60 yrs old and i can stand awhile. besides, you can sit during time outs and halftime and sit for a long time in the car leaving the game. i never remember anyone telling me to sit down, if and when they do i'm just going to ignore them. i have a right to stand up; they better stand too if they want to see the damn game. it's a frickin' FOOTBALL GAME!

When not in the student section, there is a time to stand and a time to sit. One concern is that the older people aren't able to stand for 3 hours, and the little kids are too short to see. This is why standing all game is not permitted in the season ticket areas.

o me, it's a common sense thing about when to stand / sit...in my opinion, there are critical situations in some games where it is appropriate to stand...those who stand during the entire game or most of the game are apparently not tuned in to proper social etiquette and/or don't give a damn about anyone else... i.e. "me first"

This. People don't realize that if you stand all the time, the whole section has to stand up. Because if the guy in front of me is standing, then so am I. And that effects goes up to the row above. I am all for standing on critical downs and big plays but they whole game is stupid unless the whole section follows.

All I know is that I brought my sister to the Auburn game Saturday (She is starting to get into football and loving it) and two guys in front of us decided to stand the entire 4th quarter. My sister had a unique injury to her knee 10 years ago that required multiple surgeries. Standing long periods of time is very painful for her (she is now 36 years old)..........and no, she isnt hadicaped. She just has a bum knee.

I know that people with aggrevating injuries to thier knees or legs isnt exactly uncommon. Some worse than others of course. So to those that say "I bought a ticket therefore I am entitled to be an a-hole and stand for long periods of time" GFY.

I was at the Auburn game, section 100, row 47. I stood up when I wanted and I sat when I wanted. Nobody will ever change that for me! If they can't see because I'm standing, they can stand up. That is part of being at a game, getting excited and supporting your team.
