I think you should be able to smoke as much pot as you want at tailgates, I have for years. I just don't do it in public. That's when it becomes an issue.

Dude, none of us got nearly as trashed as the baby boomers at our tailgate back in the day.
We would drink beer and smoke some pot, they'd down a handle of crown and smoke pot.

Because you mentioned you have kids there and how the smell of weed is inappropriate for them to smell.
Are grown people drinking around them much better?

Been in the medical field for over 10 years. It doesn’t work like you think it does.
No one will die from marijuana.
Meanwhile binge drinking can cause medical complications in the heart, lungs and brain, leading to death. But drinking is okay, right?
ETA: I work in New Orleans. Wednesday night I made 6 calls related to alcohol. That’s just in my area of 40 different firehouse in the city.
In 10 years I made 2 calls for marijuana. Both ended up being synthetic weed (spice)
An overdose is common in opioids and benzodiazepines, NOT CBD or THC.
Do some research, you may learn a thing or two.
