Yes

There was a culture issue imo but you don’t blame the assistants, you blame the head man

There were games/moments I didn’t love the pitch calling but he’s a proven commodity and the program doesn’t benefit from its 4th pitching coach in as many years. These recruits want to know who’s going to develop them and they see the recent track record of pitching coaches at LSU.

We are middle of the pack of worse in most SEC pitching categories

Except we’re not

5th in team ERA
3rd in OppBA
1st in strikeouts
1st in strikeouts looking (yeskie pitch calling sucks )

I’ll give you walks but those improved immensely from the start of the season to the end.

We don’t need four pitching coaches in four years.

I see the stats all the time. This is how lsu ranks in the pitching department nationally
OBP - 12th
Slugging - 9th
OPS - 8th
Walk % 128th
Strikeout % 3rd
K-BB% 5th
Whip 15th
ERA 23rd
FIP 6th
XFIP 7th
SIERA 5th
LOB % 31st

I have no idea if Yeskie is a dick or a good guy, or if he is a good pitch caller, or if he and Jay get along. but these are the national rankings of his pitching staff this year.

Do those numbers look subpar?

Look pretty damn good to me especially considering our staff apparently is so thin

The first breaking ball of the 9th inning got hit for a double.

Right, and it looked like a slider down and in, hitter made a nice swing on it, Jump almost got him. At times this year he’s thrown that more traditional looping curve (12-6ish) that’s frozen some guys. I kept expecting that one but then he would dial it up to 96 and blow past them. Jump is a damn good pitcher and I felt confident he would preserve a masterpiece farewell by Hellmers.

All you clowns whining about pitching don’t have the slightest clue as to what the frick you’re watching. An inconsistent and at times nonexistent offense was LSU’s biggest problem this year. They averaged 4 runs/game on game 3 in SEC for Christ’s sake. Everyone bitched about game 3 pitching all season when in reality your offense wasn’t doing enough to consistently win if we had an ace going game 3

After what I saw from a lot of pitchers who were supposed to take the next step this year, I hope not. That doesn't even take into account his horrible pitch calling.

I mean Little and Herring had major improvements

Moffett improved

It’s hard to say but Jump and Holeman were good.

yeah I would have liked Hurd to be good too.

otherwise i’m not sure who you’re really upset about.

I think Jump could have frozen a couple batters in the 9th/10th on breaking balls. Every time I would think “here it comes”, it would be another fastball.

Can't blame Jump for all of this. I counted all least 4 or 5 that were strikes but the ump called balls.

Hurd said he was tinkering himself trying to be perfect.

He 100% did not say this. He simply said too much tinkering, and left it open to interpretation as to who was doing the tinkering. He did not specify it was him, and he certainly didn't specify it was Yeski who came in to save the fricking day. It's on the internet, you can go listen for yourself.

Don’t forget hellmers. Changing his arm slot.
Looking forward to seeing moffitt progression. If he can control his talents, he could be the next big pitcher. Got the stuff. 98 mph fast ball, change up at 88.

I was as critical as anyone about yeskie halfway through the year, the pitching gave us no shot on Sundays for example. However, he really turned things around.

We are currently #18 in the country in Team ERA, that's pretty dang good. The pitching kept us in every game in the regional. Never had a game get away from us where we felt like we had no shot due to the pitching.

Also take a look at A&M this year, they are one of the top teams in the country in Team ERA. He developed a ton of those arms there. They only brought in 3 transfer pitchers this year who did anything, 2 of them only threw about 20 innings and 1 of them threw about 60 innings but with a 6 something ERA. A&M's pitching performance is coming off arms he developed there.

In the early innings I was driving home from work, listening to Blair and Thompson. Doug was all over that home plate umpire. He was doing the same thing, counting bad pitches he called for a strike.

I think the concern would be the lack of depth on the staff.

We all know our top 3 guys were great.

From a numbers standpoint, you wouldn't see an issue. But, when you consider what happened to Hurd...and the inability to get anyone else to be even close to a legitimate 3rd starter you have to ask whether development is an issue.

I would have said the same with the relievers. For half the year, Herring was the only guy. But, eventually Little, Ulloa, and even Moffet improved.

We are losing the top 2 guys and maybe Herring to. Is Yeskie the guy to solve that problem? To me, that's your question.

I think the inconsistent offense hindered this LSU team more then the pitching, if they could have found a way to scratch a few more runs the other night that game is over
the pitching did as good down the stretch as last year's team did

I think we should keep Yeskie. We didn't have any arms go bad this season. Noot and Shores are from last season. JJ knows exactly what LSU needs and he'll nail it!

I hope Yeskie is back as well, continuity is needed even though you will have a whole new rotation next year
Go look how Arizona struggled after they made the run to finals of CWS in 2016 and then he hired Yeskie and they were back on track and made it back to Omaha
