Baker - hell naw, he's not tied to any recruits plus he can't stop DT QBs.

Raymond - you a damn fool if you let him walk, he's too important to the program.

Raymond should be retained. Baker will be a head coach at a Group of Six university next season.

I like Blake Baker. He does a lot of things well but I want to be very clear. The reason the defense has not been doing well the last few weeks is not based upon them being on the field 80% of the time. Sure that doesn't help things but we have been doing a lot of things very poorly for several weeks now. Some things we have been doing very poorly for Baker's entire tenure.

Blake has a tendency to want to create pressure that at times he does too much. He sends an A gap blitz, then follows that up with two interior defenders doing an inside stunt. This has led repeatedly to three guys being in one gap which makes it easy for running QBs to take off. This has happened for two years.

He has not figured out how to occupy gaps and keep a QB in the pocket. He has consistently been eaten alive by running QBs. He constantly gets out flanked which led to multiple Touchdowns against Ole Miss, Vandy, and Texas A&M.

Now again, I think he does a good job at other things and I believe he does a very good job in certain aspects of the passing game. But the notion that our defense is only looking bad because they are on the field 80% of the time is just false. Ole Miss they were on the field way too much but against Vandy and the Aggies they were on the field because they couldn't get any stops. If the next Coach retains him he will need to do some work to get those things fixed. But lets not pretend the defense is better than they are.
