he has to. contrary to popular belief on here O is not a dummy. he knows he doesn't have the past success to survive a big frick up like Miles did.

I think he also realizes that the offense Canada put together this year wasn’t going to save his arse either.

Except it's not just on a message board. I don't know why some of you think this is the only place that criticizes O. I know quite a few people that have nothing to do with this place and they think the hire was a joke. Quite a few in the media have criticized the hire and his actions also.

I doubt Alleva is allowed to make the next hire. He IS allowed to make this hire though. Why would Joe let Ed dictate everyones fate by hiring an unproven guy?

My opinion is that we'll never know this. If Bill Walsh had Danny Etling at QB, he would have been fired too. Maybe the offense sucked, but no matter who the OC was he would have been handcuffed by our personnel at QB.

Late night sports talk on WWL, mike scarbough from tiger rag, and I've read multiple articles about the headscratching hire. No I don't have links but you are naive if you think this is the only place that critizes the hire.
