Unfortunately, this thread has been hijacked by “RPO vs Read Option”
That’s because our football illiterate fans repeatedly show that they don’t know wtf an RPO actually is. It’s impossible to talk about RPOs without devolving to this discussion, because half of the people reading it have no idea what you’re talking about.

I agree wholeheartedly. Need to move someone to a FB position (Pyburn/Perkins) and put Nuss on the sidelines, MVB or even wildcat it, something needs to change with regards to time of possession. This team cannot score 35 a game, so slow it down and let the OL fire off 75% of the time. Make teams put 5-6 on the LOS.

I’ll also add that RPOs off of a zone scheme are MUCH easier to defend. Not because of the linemen but LBs can slow play it and muddy up the read
Gap schemes LBs can’t slow play because if they do you have an OL pulling into a gap that isn’t being filled now. Saban did an interview about this before he retired. Can also mix in play side and backside LB reads.
So if LSU wants to use RPOs (which any college team should) they need to invest in more gap schemes aka power/counter variations

They should run PO, 'cause we cant run the ball.

Nor does he (the OP) know what the "Power I" is.

We do not run RPO. In order to run RPO, the QB needs to be willing and able to run. We run the PO.

R - If he likes the numbers in the box, he'll hand it off.
P - If he likes the look to throw, he'll pull and fire.
O - There 2 options. Please learn from this.

The following is the quote to which Fat Bastard was responding with the lesson on RPO vs. Zone Read for the OP. Note the first sentence of the OP's quote.
'Don't know, but, we need to line up in the power I and blast ahead with a fullback and come what may. Toss dive, whatever. We aren't really running a true RPO because nobody is fooled that Nuss is gonna Run."
In the Power I formation there are two blocking backs and the tailback in the backfield with the QB. The second blocking back is offset either to the right or the left of the I formation. What the OP was referring to was running the I Formation, not a Power I Formation. So in two sentences the OP was factually incorrect twice, which is all I was pointing out.

Ah I see, I think you're mixing up who the OP is in this thread, because I definitely never said that

The fact that the 2024 offensive line was so bad at run blocking (moving bodies) tells me there is a major deficiency at the core of this scheme and the mindset of that group. We’re talking about basically a low level NFL offensive line in college. The issue goes back to 2022, but JD masked it for 2 years with his superpower.
Theres one common denominator with the Oline going back that far, and he needs to be removed.
Basically this. The Zone scheme is not working and has not worked for 4 years now.

It's not offensive scheme, but the lack of a QB to run it

i mean they are allowed 3 yards,.
And, you’d think that if they could drive block for 3 yrds the RB could fall forward to get a 4th yard!

Who said anything about a triple option ?

The only RPO where the QB runs is where he is the primary run threat
I recall a Gus post snap RPO read play that had Newton key DE, keep if he crashed and if backer rushed leaving RB or TE open, toss over their head for big gains.

Do I understand correctly that you want to move Harold Perkins to fullback?

If the first read is a DE or DT it’s not an RPO it’s a read option. If you add another element to it it’s triple option even if the throw is upfield. It’s the “modern” triple option

why we run RPO with a QB who is not going to ever pull the ball.
Not this shite again. SMH.

One thing I think we need to do is to stop throwing the ball sideways so much. When you throw the ball to the sidelines you are asking the receiver to first make the catch and then make a first down which means that many times he has to run 13 yards or more to get the first down…This is the only pass play that you can lose yards on. Call me old fashion but I like the passes where if our receiver makes the catch, we make a first down. Of course if we throw sideways on 1st down we don’t have to get a first down but it is still asking a lot from our receivers…
