Tommy Casanova was a 3X First Team All American when you could only play 3 years. I am not claiming he was the best defensive Player of All Time but he was pretty damn good. When I was a kid Hugh Green was REALLY good at Pitt. Just a few names from the past.

Derrick Thomas is the most dominant defensive player I've seen in college football.

Same here. Now, LSU has had guys who would get "in the zone", notably White, Mathieu, Peterson, Bradie James, Michael Brooks (and even further back, Al Richardson was a tackling machine and Casanova was a gamechanger, defensively, as well) and a slew of other guys, to be honest. Not sure any are as good as Derrick Thomas although our guy I would put up is Mathieu - a defender who literally changes games on a single play is a rare, rare thing.

That’s a decent post. Walker was unreal. But you have a bunch of 20-30 year old LSU wanna be homers that would never believe how great he was. And he didn’t do it for just ONE season.

He was the best player in college football in 11. No one will ever convince me otherwise. He controlled games on defense and returns. Was it the best year ever? Doubtful but he should've won the Heisman imo

I’ll agree with this....... his 2011 season WAS the reason we played for a title. And he was one of the few bright spots in the title game.

The two best I have ever seen were Herschel and Hugh Green. Herschel was just unreal.

Hershel Walker
Bo Jackson
Emmitt Smith
Barry Sanders
Eric Dickerson

Joe B is the goat this century and is by far the goat of 1 season But overall career no there are lots of players in college football with better overall careers

I love TM7, but he doesn't even make my top 3 defensively at LSU.

No. Not even close. Deion Sanders and Reggie White were waaayy better, just to name two. Woodson won a Heisman. If an objective organization listed the top defenders of the last 50 years Mathieu would not be top 10. But he was great, and he was fun to watch.

Although I absolutely love the honey badger, I think Stingley will turn out to be the best defensive player to have ever played for the Tigers. That’s saying a lot because we have had some hell of a players on that side of the ball

No, now u know damn well that the media and all of the people up north will vote for Charles Woodson as the best cfb defensive player ever bc he won the Heisman.

I will tell you this regarding burrow though...

There isn't another qb that has ever played college football that I would take to lead my team over 2019 senior Joe Burrow. He was the best qb that I've ever seen this past season and that's not an exaggeration by any means and there are plenty of people with alot of respect in the game that believe so as well. Which is why he won the Heisman by the biggest landslide in Heisman voting history...with top notch candidates like justin fields, Jalen hurts, and chase young. He made it look easy dude. In the absolute toughest division of the toughest conference in cfb. Then did it in the playoffs against ou and Clemson and would have demolished osu as well had he be given the opportunity to do so. Nobody was besting LSU last season, which is why they were the best cfb team ever. He was just that damn good and did it against the toughest competition you could play against. He's the goat cfb qb on the goat team against the best available to play against. That's pretty solid argument for being the best cfb qb in history I would say. geaux tigers.

I wouldnt consider either best of all-time. To best of all-time you need to be the best in college football for more than one season. Just off the top of my head are ones I consider above each.

Hugh Greene
Lee Roy Selmon
Butkus
Bozworth
Derrick Thomas
Suh
Deion
Ronnie Lott
Woodson
Randy Gradishar

Gale Sayers
Barry Sanders(only one year, but freaking amazing)
Herschel
Tebow
Namath
O.J.
Bo
Earl Campbell
Tony Dorsett
Archie Griffin
Archie Manning
Peyton
