TM7 and BD Joe. Is it true? Does LSU lay claim to both the best defensive and offensive player to ever play at this level?

Cool the jets on the ever.

If we’re just talking this century Suh is your only comp for it probably.

I don’t know if TM7 had the time in his career to be considered the best statistically but 2011 was an amazing year for him. One of the best I’ve seen. He just had a sixth sense for where the ball was and how to get it. I’ve never seen that before.
Joe of course is the best ever! His records might never be broken.

Derrick Thomas is the most dominant defensive player I've seen in college football.

TM7 is the best this decade for sure, I’d say even century. Not all time tho. Joe has a legit argument for goat all time tho, definitely the goat season ever no matter what

If it is single season TM7 has an arguement.

Burrow May be the front runner for single season on offense

TM7 is comparable to Woodson. He didn’t have the interceptions but he forces 6 fumbles.

TM7 was special but Woodson won the Heisman. Best Ever is a pretty bold take.

Herschel Walker says hello for best offensive player ever.
I have never seen anyone like Walker. He was a fricking beast. He was an offense all to himself.

Yup, hands down. Cannon played both ways, and return specialist, Heisman, National Champs, No. 1 in NFL and AFL drafts, etc.

Woodson was phenomenal, but when I think about it, Mathieu was very comparable. Woodson's play on offense (especially his big play against Ohio State) combined with his stellar defensive play won him the Heisman.

Woodson accounted for 4 TDs I believe in his Heisman season, Mathieu did the same in his Heisman finalist year (two fumbles returned for TDs and two punt return TDs). Woodson actually never had a defensive TD in his Heisman year. Woodson had 7 Ints and Mathieu only had 2, but Mathieu had 4 fumble recoveries and broke his own LSU record for most forced fumbles in a season. He led the team in tackles (had like 30+ more tackles than Woodson), was a much better punt returner and was huge at the end of the season in the Arkansas game with his punt TD and in the SEC championship game where he was the MVP.

For a single season on offense it's Burrow period. Can start discussion on 2nd place.

Defense is a little harder to discriminate because there's no common denominator across positions. TBH, had we won the natty in '11 Tyrann would be in the thick of the discussion.

Joe definitely had the greatest season but his entire career cannot be considered the best.

Now defensively, Mathieu didn’t even have the best season ever. Sean Taylor’s single season was absurd. And for a career Charles Woodson, Sean Taylor, Ed Reed, Ray Lewis had better careers.

TM7 isn’t the best defensive player in LSU history. He is the greatest playmaker in the history of the program but Peterson and Claiborne were better CB’s That were his teammates. I would say Devin White and Bradie James were better overall defensive player and that’s just in the last 20 years guys. Casanova was a decent player I heard.

Good lord man!!!

Take off the purple and gold glasses.

Both of those guys each had one incredible year. Joe may be the best single year ever.

But it takes more than one season to be called the BEST PLAYER EVER.
