Yes. Their season overlaps with the wrestling and men's gymnastics seasons, so they don't get much press...

What year were you on the club team? They were really decent in early 90's then by late 90's not as strong. I don't remember any championships.

The sand volleyball team has only 2 scholarships at this time. I think they will max out with 6 in the future. There aren't many men's sports teams that we could field with only 6 scholarships.

Skillet. Really? It's pretty well developed in HS compared to when we were in HS (I think we are close in age. Like a decide behind LSUDad).

My recently graduated son was District MVP, All-State and second leading vote getter on the BR All-Metro team. The issue is, now what? Without collegiate programs, these kids have nowhere close by to go.

It's just as bad in Texas, Alabama, Arkansas or Mississippi as it is in Louisiana for no real D-1 Men's Soccer. SMU has the only big time school Men's program out of these states. Memphis and Tulsa have programs and some directional Florida schools do too. The ACC is traditionally strong in Men's Soccer. I know LSU would have had some serious Men's Soccer talent go there from the region over the past decade for nothing more than waiving the out of state tuition fees to them.

Some SEC program will eventually break the logjam, possibly Vandy will reinstitute their Men's program. The game is getting too popular with the general populace.

Alabama has UAB, which was a VERY good team and USA.

Doesn't rice field a mens team?

I played at William Carey Colllege in Mississippi. It's an NAIA school, but we were ranked pretty high nationally. Shitload of foreigners on my team. There were a few of us from la

Not only could LSU field a decent team out of existing players who went out of state bc there's no teams, but if the SEC had men's soccer you'd see a huge upswing in the number of players who stick with it seriously bc they see an opportunity to play in college.

Not that players don't try, but most don't put in the effort that the football, basketball, and baseball guys do bc they just don't see any future in it after high school. You either have to be a superstar like Mullins, or go play for some random D3 or NAIA school in Mississippi or Tennessee.

Like someone said though soccer is getting too big and the SEC prides itself on sports too much, it'll eventually find its way in

The SEC barely cares about men's basketball. I don't see the ADs making a big push for men's soccer.

Damn you Skillet. The World Cup can't end soon enough. This shite is out of control.

Here are the only Mens Sports sponsored by the SEC.

Baseball
Basketball
Cross Country
Football
Golf
Swimming & Diving
Tennis
Track & Field (Indoor)
Track & Field (Outdoor)

Side note: Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the US. I can see this happening before soccer for a lot of schools. It's very popular in the Northeast already.

I look at it this way. If you look at football in the US, many of the top athletes are in the south. Few, if any of these athletes play soccer, because as you said, there's no hope of playing on beyond HS. Therefore, the US, IMO, is not going to produce soccer superstars that it clearly could. My son could have gone to a small school and paid the outrageous out of state tuition, or go to LSU and let TOPS pay for him to get a chemical engineering degree.

My high school did not. Nobody in our district had one either.

NCAA soccer is not good for US soccer anyway. If the best players spend any time in NCAA soccer, which they currently do, it sets them back 4 years compared to our international competition.

NCAA doesn't play by FIFA rules (unlimited subs is a pretty huge difference), majorly limits practice time, has a very limited schedule and prevents our best players from playing in the best dev leagues during breaks in the NCAA schedule.

It's fine if our best players do not play in it, but that's not going to be the case until our domestic league gets stronger and their development academies increase in stature. Until then, the NCAA is a hinderance to the end goal of producing the best national team possible.

Won't happen and part of it is due to Title IX, but in all honesty, I don't see Men's soccer as being a revenue generating sport and if you add a men's team it has to be revenue generating and beyond the Football and basketball and maybe baseball--but that is debatable there are no men's revenue generating teams. Baseball doesn't bring in the tv money that FB and men's BB does.

While u got the rt idea, baseball makes money. We might be 1 of a few who do. Basketball is rarely on TV and the games are never half full, it doesn't make any money.

Sand volleyball isn't enough. And if it was id assume you'd get like 5 schollies to make. 23 man roster. Not going to compete with that.
