I've always hated that. You don't hear announcers calling UCLA "University of California Los Angeles." We're LSU for goodness sake, nobody calls us Louisiana State. Same for SMU, TCU, USC, UTEP, and a bunch of others.

It bugs me. No other school is singled out. Alabama isn't called "the University of Alabama," it's just called Alabama.
Florida isn't called "the University of Florida," it's just Florida.
University of Mississippi is called "Ole Miss." Where's the "Ole" come from? Yet they're still called "Ole Miss by everyone.
Call us LSU.

In baseball I really like that they call us Louisiana State for some reason

Bad example, Bama & Florida are not "State" schools. By leaving the University out of the name, you're making a case for "Louisiana State" IMO

We just do it differently. Louisiana State University is just LSU, not Louisiana State. University of Louisiana at Lafayette is not "Louisiana" either.

It just seems to be picky people being picky. All I care about is winning and the best quarterback getting on the field.

I think it sounds a lot more classier when announcers say Louisiana State. So I actually prefer it. It has more of that prestigious ring to it. Kind of like when you get your college diploma. You wouldn't want LSU written out on it. That would just make it look unofficial and poorly made. When they write out Louisiana State University, it makes it look professional and a lot more appealing.
