In that stretch, MSU put up 24 points on us. I know 7 came after a blocked punt and short field, but still.

There was a time when LSU's defense gave up 20+ points once or twice in an entire season. This year, Teams didn't try very hard to score on us. Look at UF?

This season we gave up:
23 - UW
24 - MSU
24 - Bama
25 - OM (even though they got NO points from their pick 6 that was called back)

Our defense is good, don't get me wrong. We just are used to better overall performance. This is a Decent to Good defense, but not a top defense, period.

IF, our Offense was competent, I would bet the D would be a lot better.

Funny how that works

If our defense wouldn't let the opposing team drive 60 yards downfield before stopping them, then maybe our offense wouldn't have to put together 85 yard drives to score, and they wouldn't be ranked 106th.
Funny how it works both ways.

Our defense has been good this year, not great. In the 3 games we played against teams worth a shite (Florida, Bama, and Ole Miss), our opposition gashed us up the middle. We couldn't stop the Florida dive play, we couldn't stop Ingram, and we couldn't stop McCluster.

Our point of attack needs improvement. Defensive Line improves and the yardage allowed will improve. We have a great secondary and good linebackers. If the DL is not getting sacks or plugging runs teams are going to get yardage. As the field gets shorter secondaries and linebackers have more of an effect. I know that sounds weird but they don't have to worry about deep threats when teams are at the 15 yard line. The DBs can play up and the linebackers can play closer to the line and less in pass coverage.

LSU's DL should be better next year and you will see an improvement in yardage given up.

Did you miss the last three games? Specifically, did you miss the first half against La Tech and Ole Miss?

SFP, I just took our stats from the NCAA website. I am actually in agreement with you. Stats are lies. Just like Wins don't mean a coach is good. I love the ignorance people show with stats.

You have to look at them as a whole, and even then, watching the actual games tells you more.

LSU has a good defense, but the style of defense keeps low scores, but hurts our offense at the same time. Our TO ratio for the season is only high because our offense doesn't really turn it over, they just go 3 or 6 and out. This is not a very good defense, just good.

our D is based around stopping teams in the red zone

it's a risky D, as you're praying all game that you don't give up the big play

if you do give up the big play, it's a fail (we do this)

this D will allow offenses to dominate time of possession, allow opposing Ds to rest, and puts a ton of pressure on your D once it gets to the red zone (along with tiring them out).

it does keep scores lower by forcing offenses to eat clock (see: florida)

The worst part of this D is our D stays on the field way too much meaning we have less time with the ball on offense and run less plays. I would rather have a team that gets off the field on 3rd down more.
