What?
Their completion percentages are almost identical

If you are gonna use stats that way then according to their stats Jordan Jefferson is a better QB than Brandon Harris.

He was thrown in a sticky situation at Purdue. Inexperienced OLine that didn't block for a shite. Think he started 5-6 games and got sacked roughly 16 times
In the 12 games he started he was sacked 42 times.

How can he be better than Chad Kelly of Ole Miss? Kelly will be the premier qb in the league. I hate to admit it but seeing is believing,

After retiring from the NFL in 2014, Orton and his wife moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to raise their daughter. Orton intends to mentor high school and college-level football players in Louisiana.
I'm curious to learn more about that. Why here? Did this influence Etling? Is he making connections with LSU, the major university in his new home town... and a team with a traditionally big hole at a position he knows?

I mean, Orton isn't running the Manning camp, but he's got a decade in the NFL. He's probably a guy that could teach a kid something (actually, since he ISN'T a Manning, he might be able to teach more about working within your own limitations to improve). And like I said, he's working with local kids, at the one position we desperately need.
Off-topic, but whoever downvoted this, can you tell me why?

I think it's interesting, and a very good thing, that a reasonably successful NFL QB would move to BR with the stated intention to help develop local talent.

Orton wasn't an elite talent, he had just average ability; and he was able to stick in the NFL for a decade and have several good seasons (the total opposite of Jeff George). He probably knows a lot of little nuances that could improve a young kid's game.

I'd love anything that would raise the level of QB play in this state, it would greatly help LSU.

So, consider that. Purdue has been far more successful than LSU when it comes to QBs; it wouldn't be a shocker if a guy that couldn't start there could still come start here, or a lot of other places. It would be like saying that so-and-so wasn't good enough to start at linebacker at Penn State, so he must be crap.
And not one played at Purdue in a very long time. By your logic, maybe we should look for RB transfers from Army. They had back to back Heisman winners.
I get that Purdue isn't the team they were back when Brees was slinging it around. But there's something to be said for the talent of the overall team- LSU has won 2 titles and competed for another, with guys who likely wouldn't have started at a lot of schools. We were loaded elsewhere. It's completely possible that a backup QB on a bland team might still be better than what we have.

I don't think Etling is that guy.

Those are 2 separate statements.

I don't know if he will win the starting job, but he looks like more of a game manager to me, which I like. My knock on Harris is that he looked for the home run pass too much and didn't make the short and immediate throws very well (I think Etling is probably the opposite, making the short and intermediate throws well, but maybe not throwing as well beyond 20-30 yards). I have no idea how it'll shake out, but I'm still high on Harris, although I look forward to seeing if Etling can take the job.

My hope is that they're neck and neck, meaning that they'll both play at a higher level.

And I'm sure you've got all of the inside sources that attend practice and then go run to tell you what happened so you can share it on TD.

Dude was 7th best last year and 4 above him graduated/transferred so he is automatically 4th
Thank goodness those other teams aren't allowed to replace graduating QB's.

I love your enthusiasm, but Harris would have to improve significantly and stay lucky to have the type of season you are predicting. Maybe if Fournette has that record breaking Heisman year he can throw darts when no one is paying attention...

Uh oh. This means that Etling is our "short distance" QB and Harris is the "long distance" QB. Knowing the next play LSU will call will be that much more obvious.

The only thing that I know about Purdue football is that they played Washington in the 2001 Rose Bowl (2000 season); however, it's very possible that 2015 Purdue had a better starting QB than LSU did, and it's also possible that Purdue's second-string QB was better than LSU's starting QB last year.

Herein lies the problem....hes an unknown commodity to an extent. He could look great in the Spring Game but until he gets in an SEC game and sees action, there is no way of knowing his ceiling.
