I like how Gaines and Cook are point guards looking to dish and find the open man anywhere on the floor. They are great team players. That's what you need to compete with the best teams. Team players and 'team' chemistry...

Not a chance. He’s a lottery pick in a lot of mocks.

All of those other things can be taught. Any team that drafts him is drafting him with the understanding it will be a few years before he will contribute in the NBA

So if an inefficient shot chucker that brings nothing else to the table is good at getting fouled and making 20% of difficult shots, then he should be drafted early? What makes you think he can learn all the acquired skills he needs to succeed in the NBA?

And his future in the NBA could go well or could not, no one knows. I just think if you look at college teams that have succeeded in the past several years, they are not full of Cam Thomas type players. As a fan of my college team, I’d like a group of players that knows how to succeed at winning in college basketball. If you’re in college and take shitty shots while simultaneously not running back on defense or even trying on defense at all (Cam) then I don’t like watching you

I would venture to say we would be a better team with Jalen Cook/Gaines splitting PG duties

That is one reason I would love to have Thomas back next season. If we had a true point guard, who tried get the ball to the open man, Thomas and Days would be much more lethal.

I think the funniest part about your post is how easy you think scoring is. He shoots 40% from the field, certainly not great. Go watch other college games though, not NBA, watch college. Cam Thomas gets guarded about as hard as anyone in the country. Every night, whoever plays him is playing as hard as humanly possible. That alone shows you the respect coaches and players have for him. If he has an open shot, he makes it.

And Cam does play D. He does rebound. He does do little things. He just doesn’t do them nearly consistent enough...just like the entire LSU team. There are times LSU looks great, then we get into selfish mode and start not moving our feet on D, lazy shots on O, lazy passes, and we collapse.

Again, what leaders do we have? Watford and Smart? 2 other guys who have to get their bad shots up and play little defense? There is no one, including Wade, who is holding Cam responsible. If you can’t see the potential that kid has, no idea what to tell you. He won’t be an all-star in the NBA, but that guy is going to make tens of millions of dollars because he is an absolute elite scorer.

What is next years roster gonna look like?

Presumably everyone except Watford, Thomas and Smart return.

Then you add Alex Fudge (6'6") SF and Seneca Knight 6'6" G/F transfer to the mix. Fudge was ranked the 56th best player in the 2020 class (same class as this year's freshmen). He's an athletic, long, slasher but not very big from a size perspective. Think something along the lines of a Charles Mannning type of player. Kinght was the leading scorer on a bad San Jose St. team last year. But he was a volume scorer (took a lot of shots to get those points). Still, he has a few years D-1 experience

Their highest ranked recruit (if you don't consider Fudge as part of "next years" newcomers) is Jerrell Colbert from Texas (though he plays HS ball in Memphis now). He's listed as a Center, but he's really a 6'9" PF. He's tall and very long (though somewhat skinny). He can probably develop more of an outside game, but next season he will be almost exclusively in the paint. They also add Ezewiro (after a year in prep school) who is a 6'7 240lb bruiser and Brandon Murray a three star SG from Baltimore. Physically he is ready to step in and play. He wasn't very highly recruited (Auburn being LSU biggest competition) but Wade really likes him.

Next year's group should be VERY athletic. Though they will probably be the least skilled group since Wade's first year. There doesn't look to be a big time scorer in the group like you have on this team. The length and athleticism to be a solid defensive team should be there. The offensive efficiency will likely take a dip as Days looks to be the only real "shooter" of the bunch. It will probably look more like Wade's VCU teams (lot of interchangeable athletes) rather than his LSU teams with multiple potential NBA draft picks.

That's so stupid. Dude had 10 rebounds last night and is gonna be sec player of the year or at least Freshman of the year in the whole country . He takes a ton of tough shots ,he has a lower percentage because hes our main scorer and gets to the line.

To not want him back is the dumbest shitt ever ,imagine if he improved his game even more. He would be even better, what would he average 30 and 8? Cmon dude

At the moment, he’s a one dimensional player that isnt efficient at that one dimension he has going for him

I fully believe if we had a junior or senior version of Jalen Cook instead of Cam Thomas this year, we’d be a better team

This is the dumbest thing ive read so far today. Congrats!

Why the hate for smart? Hes a good point guard who can score. He has games where he scores at will but not every night I agree. Hes been the top point guard in assist to turnover ratio the last two years and shoots the best three ball on the team.

Wait till he leaves and see what you miss

Can you statistically prove that theres anything he does exceptionally well besides PPG as a total and free throw stats?

The hate for Smart is absurd. It’s like just because he scores a lot, people say he isn’t a “true point guard”, but as you pointed out, his assist totals and assist to turnover ratios are very good. This isn’t 1985 where the PG is supposed to just distribute and not score. Also he one of the best 3 pt shooters in the league this season. He is in the running for SEC POY as well.

Let me throw this at you. Thomas doesn’t just get to the free throw line, he gets there at an insane rate, and he is automatic when there. Let’s say he is 3-10 from the field, that’s 30 percent, but let’s say he gets fouled 4 times and makes all 8 free throws. That is basically the equivalent of 4 more made shots, so it would make it like he was 7-14, instead of 3-10.

He has a defined position on the team as the SCORER. Thats his job and he does it well. Why would any other stat be important?

Hes gonna finish top 3 in the sec player of the year and will be the national freshman of the year. Seems like a weird hill to die on, but you do you.

Just looked up Chris Jackson (Abdul-Rauf) numbers.

Freshman year:

30.2 pts
48.6% FG
38.9% 3 pt
81.5% FT
4.1 assists
3.4 rebounds

Now that is a SCORER

Hopefully Cook can be an adequate shooter off the dribble. Was good to see him get to the corner last night for a three

Not a chance, his game is much more suited for the pro game than college. Defenses won't collapse around him and it is a much more spread out floor which will highlight his strengths
