Cade Cunningham is the best freshman in the country and it’s not even close.

If he's smart and listens to good advice, he will. He can't do anything at all except score by taking a bunch of shots. He isn't an efficient scorer either. 30% from 3, but jacks up an average of almost 8 per game. He can't rebound, find other open players, play defense, and he doesn't have great size. He needs to look at Javonte and how his game has improved since he got to LSU. Smart went from shooting 37% FG and 31% from 3 to 49% FG and 45% from the arc. Those numbers (and Smart's draft stock) have only gone up because he stayed.

I groan when he attempts the Harden step back three.

Cam will not have the leash to shoot these at the next level, so his fg percentage will go up

Players have nothing to gain by staying in college other than maturing. Anything basketball related can be taught and worked on at a much higher level in the league or G league. It's just not even comparable.

Play on a good college team against some of the best competition in the country.

Be treated like a star around town.

College girls.

Build a legacy within the program and be a fan favorite who will long he remembered.

Fair enough, but the goal for someone like Thomas(all time leading scorer for Oak Hill), is to get to the NBA. Even if he plays G league, he can 100 percent focus on basketball and not have to worry about taking classes etc.

What’s wrong with getting a college degree? He gonna play in the NBA until he’s 65 years old?

Nothing is wrong with it, but that is not the plan for him. He can come back and get a college degree once he has stacked millions from playing in the NBA( if it works out for him.)

I would bet that of the players who are potential 1 and done. 95% are perfectly ok if they don't win a title in the year they are in college.

Most if given the choice wouldn't even go to college. Would go straight to the draft out of high school.

I don't think that matters as much up front to them. I am sure they love the attention, but feel they can get that in the league. They are probably more worried about money than fame.

Just like gold diggers who chase pro athletes, more trouble than they are worth. Rape allegations waiting to happen. Or baby momma's waiting to happen.

They are more concerned with building a brand in the league than a legacy at a university.

IMO, the only players worried about the things you mentioned are players who know up front they are 3-4 year players. They are the ones who are usually legacy players, who've had family play there, or have ties to the university.

Add to those his handle isn't even good by college standards. Plus, the bad shot selections that are always contested.
Another year would let him develop into a top 5 selection. Advisors could counsel that he's proven to the NBA he can score so developing a handle and the discipline to improve at all individual facets of playing within a team concept (until the last 6 seconds of the shot clock) would earn him millions more in the long run.
But he can shoot so someone will draft him as is. Too bad for his long term prospects but he's not here for school so I gotta think he goes.

We can discuss hypotheticals and "should he" questions all we want, but unless Wade is planning to push someone off the current roster who is set to return next season Thomas's scholarship is already taken. As are the scholarships of two other players (presumably Watford and Smart) (unless the NCAA is willing to expand the 13 scholarship limit due to covid)

Maturing between the ears is as important as improving their game. Kwame Brown ring a bell? A year or 2 in college would have prepared him some for what he was in for. I'm sure a little more maturity would have gone a long way in how M. Fultz handled his injury.
I'm sure you're not saying players don't improve on the court year to year in college. I'm stuck on Tim Duncan right now or I'd give some examples.
Growing up some before being surrounded by guys who are older than you, have their own influences and habits---good or bad---and being expected to produce whether in practice or games is only a good idea.
Some guys can handle it. Most are not ready for what they face whether they reach expected levels of production or not.

I don't usually do this but you are an idiot. The dude even goes so far as to back up his opinions with the stats but you ignore the facts and squat on it anyway. Up yours, dumbazz. Now go upstairs and ask your mom if she left enough hot water for your shower this week.
