Does anyone fear or at least have concern of Chavis' influence on A&M defense?

I know their D has been bad for quite a while. However, they haven't had a proven DC like chavis. It seems if they're offense stays productive and they add just a little bit of D they can be a tough win.

How good do you think they'll be in the coming years?

They don't have the secondary to really make his scheme work yet. When they do is when we should start having some concern.

It all depends on how patient the Aggies can be. Chavis won't have the DB and DL depth to fully run his scheme. Throw in the fact that he now has a fast-paced offense with a pretty low TOP and it could equal some growing pains. Growing pains that they might now have time to let happen.

His Mustang package will be demolished by our running game.

First off, they need to recruit better players to even have a hope of a decent defense

Second off, Chavis is used his own offense holding onto the ball for a long time, he's used to US controlling the pace of the game offensively and almost always winning the T.O.P. battle. It's a big difference when your defense has to only be on the field 25 minutes a game vs. 35 minutes a game. A&M has got to change up their offense some if they want to see any real improvement in their defense.

It's going to take time to get good players in to run Chavis' system. They lack DBs and LBs pretty badly. I don't know how long Chavis plans on to keep coaching, but I don't see any real improvement in their defense until year 3 or later.

The TOP is what a lot of ppl overlook. As horrible as our offense was last year, we were still in the top 10 for TOP. Chavis' D at A&M will be on the field a lot more.

LSU, Bama, and AU shouldn't worry because Chavis defense won't work against the run with Sumlin shitting away ball control and top with his run and shoot philosophy.

Eta. Three posters responded with my same rationale while I was posting this. I thought I was an innovator.

I'm not worried about Chavis's defense at all. That defense is going to get shredded and make that fatass look like the clown POS that he is.

I'm glad he left, it was time for a change.

He's not a magician. Without talent they will continue to suck arse. He will help them get talent however. In a few years they will be much improved on D....if Sumlin is still there.

Actually, that's not valid.

Chavis oftentimes would be scored on early... usually the first drive. Then he would make adjustments and do quite well for most of the rest of the game.

Then the end-game issues.

So, be fearful only of say the middle 50 minutes of the game... 2 minutes at the end and 8 minutes at the start.

Chavis's scheme is HIGHLY dependent on personnel specifically tailored to his scheme.

A&M D will improve, but they don't have the hosses.

Chavis couldn't stop a designed running QB in Matt Mauck when he was with Vols and he still hasn't figured it out when we played the Irish or Dawgs or the Barn. That's with lock down corners. Without those corners he has trouble stopping the run.

That's the thing. Sumlin is 11-2, 9-4 & 8-5 in his 3 years at A&M. Those first 2 years he had some pretty sick offensive talent. He parlayed his 2 years with Manziel into a $5 million per year contract in 2013. If he don't win something in 2015 he's got to be on the hot seat in 2016. That's not enough time for A&M to all of a sudden get better DBs. Their DB coach is Terry Joseph who is just meh.

Now, that certainly won't stop their loony fans from trolling and acting like they have multiple NCs in their trophy case.
