No. LSU made a decision when it hired O and didn't really try to hire an elite coach that it wasn't ready to really compete for championships. LSU just wants to make money and if they think they can get away with 7-5 records, they will. That's why it pays shills like Tiger Ree and others to come on here every day to soften people up and lower expectations.

Lowering expectations to 7-5 is one thing, but keeping people buying tickets and going to games to watch 7-5 is another. They’ll never accomplish that feat if indeed they are ok with 7-5, 8-4. TV accessibility and convenience that was not available in the 90s will keep people home.

That money they are making right now will dry up real quick winning 7 or 8 games a year. With everything LSU football has given to the university you would think they spare no expense to keep it at an elite level. If F King thinks his budget is bad now he won’t like it if he lets athletics slide.

Yes, 7-5 will cost O his job.

If we wanted LSU to be a 7-5 team than Les should have never been fired.

Depends on the "7-5", think if somehow/someway gets UGA and/or Gumps in the "7" and maybe possibly steals Miami and/or AU in there will definitely stay, of course may have a stupid one in the "5" somewhere but believe with that and the class coming in 19 will buy him another year.

Nevertheless, this is what they've decided to do. They're obviously hoping that somehow O can get the team at least into a NY6 bowl. However, that's different than committing to actually building and maintaining a championship-caliber program. Neither O nor Ensminger (the HC and OC) are championship-caliber. Aranda might be good enough to keep LSU at 8 wins a season and they probably think they can sucker a critical mass of fans into thinking LSU is close and has a chance at a championship. Keeping good relationships with the local media and doubling the number of shills on Tigerdroppings is part of the cost-saving strategy.

Different strokes for different folks.

Different standards of minimally acceptable excellence.

7-5 for LSU Alums, other college grads, normal adult LSU fans and all Reality Pumpers:

7-5 for Luzianner Lifer public high school grads/drop out's, abnormal adult LSU fans, Pump Lump Nut Butter Cheerleader MA's and all of the P6 Clique menagerie. (Ponamsky's Pitiful Pathetic Purple P-Tang Posse) :

And a small sampling of Pump Lump loser excuses:
"Wait till next Year"
"We'll be Fine"
"We had too may Injuries"
"If only so and so didn't get hurt"
"Nega-Tigers attitude effected the team morale and Chemistry"
"Tiger Stadium empties at half-time and it gets the players depressed when they come out for the third Quarter"
"O needs more time to recruit his own Players"
"Schedule was too Hard"
"Saban cheats too much and the SEC office allows him to get away with It"

Tiger Rant once the season starts:

This.

A 7-5 season would be a disaster that would make the November ‘15 slide look like a playoff run.

It would be absolute chaos in BR.

Whether you or I like Coach O or Alleva, it is in LSUs best interest for them to perform well.
sure, but define "well." I think we should be in the mix most years to win the West. So 9-3 or 8-4 isn't "performing well."

No, but it probably puts him officially on the hottest coaching seat in college football for 2019. And it probably affects how we close with our 2019 class. If he goes 7-5 the damage done to his coaching career at LSU will be too much to overcome in 2019 and that will be his last year. It probably costs Alleva his job though.

Except Les only went 7-5 once. That said, we were probably headed down that road. I don’t think we would have truly bottomed out any time soon under Les simply because he was still bringing in loads of talent. By bottom out I mean 3-9, 4-7 or something.

I think that is true but they may be willing to wait for the end of the contracts. If I recall correctly, O has a contract through the 2019 season and Alleva is contracted through July 2020. Could be a both done after 2019 football unless there is a significant uptick and I think Alleva may be done at the end of his contract, possibly of his own accord.

There’s no way IMO that O goes before Alleva if it goes south. Joe won’t be allowed to hire another HC.

If Alleva goes, Orgeron is going right behind him.

The rest not reason Alleva would be fired (minus some kind of big time scandal) is if the football program becomes unsatisfactory for the boosters and board. He is in fact, doing what he was hired to do which is make LSU athletics department money.

This is my concern if for some reason this isn't a successful season. Will he actually be fired? How much do his superiors value winning over profit margin?

For now. It’s more inconvenient for most now to attend games than to stay home and watch them, which is what more will do if winning is no longer part of the game experience.
