It costs money to live in a civilized society. When you become an adult, you have to come to grips with this. Roads & infrastructure need constant attention. Our government is not voluntary so there are plenty of costs associated in that. There’s much to criticize as far as their efficiencies are oversight, but they will never come at zero cost.
If you want something closer to zero cost, go live in a cave. Even then you’ll not live free because you’re sharing your possessions with rats, bugs & bears.

Cutting social security is a reasonable thought but it would represent a default by the federal government. It wouldn’t be our first quasi default but it wouldn’t be ideal.

Yes.
The property rights that everyone here enjoys are in large part enforced by the local, state and federal infrastructure around us. It’s obviously far from perfect, but it works and it’s not free, so taxes are required unfortunately.
If you don’t enforce tax payments somehow, then you can’t pay for government infrastructure and property rights would only available to those who are rich and powerful enough to pay for their own protection.
