re: Do you think Harold Perkins does a better job returning punts than our current mannequin?

quote:good point. We should have probably not let the following players return punts also in hindsight:
Whether he would or not doesn't matter - you don't risk that. Too easy to get injured returning a punt and I want him focusing on defense, not worrying about punt returns.
Tyrann Matthieu
Patrick Peterson
Mo Claiborne
Chad Jones
Odell Beckham
Derrick stingley
Jarvis Landry
Eta: I’m not saying Perkins should return punts, just that your reasoning is awful

The frick y’all come up with this shite

Have you seen him field a punt?? It’s a special skill. It would be nice if he had it and could practice it enough to do it in a game but I’d rather him keep practicing at linebacker.

Punt returner has done fine since they took Bech out
Clayton bobbled one last week and fell on his arse. Most of the PRs just let it bounce and roll as far as possible giving us terrible field position. For all the athletes we have, PR should be a weapon but instead we're just praying someone catches it

I know it's absurd, but really do think he'd do better than whoever the hell it is that I just cringe each time a punt's in the air.
Mannequin as in just a body back there fair catching with no aspirations of gaining a single yard on a return.
Just a few weeks ago everyone was advocating for returners to just fair catch or let the ball bounce and the other team down it.
I do not know if Perkins returned punts or kicks in HS. This is what we really miss Trey Palmer on. I do know that Sage Ryan returned kicks and punts extremely well in HS and my recollection is that Langlois (but he is hurt and out for the season I think) did as well.
All three of those guys are reportedly sub-4.5 in the 40. Because I am most familiar with Sage in HS I know he was electronically timed in his sophomore year at 4.45. I think Langlois was reported to have run a 4.4 even.
But I am fine with the job Gregory Clayton Jr. is doing.

No need to risk injury to our best player.
But I get it. I kiss the days when LSU always had an electric returner.

You mean the one where he was interfered with?
Clayton isnt a great returner but hes the best we got at that position and hes not on scholarship so maybe lets not shite on him ok?

Maybe you should focus your energy towards the blocking of the punt return team and not the returner that has zero room.

Some of you people are like teenie girls salivating over a pop star with your gushing over all things Harold Perkins. Have not seen such embarrassing fawns since Joe Burrow.

As long as he isn’t fumbling…let him be
Posted on 11/15/22 at 10:08 am to geauxseph69
Greg Clayton has not fumbled a punt this year from what I can recall

No ones shitting on him, but that doesnt mean this team shouldnt be able to do better. Regardless, he's a grown man and doesn't need to be coddled.

Calling him a mannequin is shitting on him. This whole thread is dumb as frick. You should be ashamed of yourself for defending this garbage. I mean why dont we let Harold Perkins play QB, "he can probably throw a slant better than Daniels amirite heheheee"
Posted on 11/15/22 at 10:38 am to lsugradman
I never defended this dumbass thread just said we should be able to do better
Posted on 11/15/22 at 10:39 am to geauxseph69
He’s catching the ball, that’s all I want right now
Posted on 11/15/22 at 11:35 am to Mobiletiggah
I thought he did it last year...and was one of the top players at RB as well. But I don't know if I'd want him to take the chance of getting injured. He is the top Linebacker in CFB right now and should win the Bednarick Award this year. I mean who could the say was better at linebacker?

Somebody please tell me the last time an LSU player was injured returning punts
Posted on 11/15/22 at 11:51 am to geauxseph69
I hear you. LSU has had some great punt returners in the last several decades. Cannon, Casanova, Dominick Davis, Kennison, Chad Jones, Honey Badger, Shark, OBJ, Patrick Peterson, Trindon Holliday, Skyler Green, etc. A good punt return can win a game for you. Most of these guys were sure handed and took some risks. With all of LSU's great athletes we should not have to settle for PTSD game plan.
