he averaged 18yds/carry in big time texas highschool ball. I mentioned either here or TOS that he should’ve after the pulled nabors. that was before he blew up defensively though.

Leg injury but not sure exactly what. Also not positive he won't be back late in the season here.

Eta: I’m not saying Perkins should return punts, just that your reasoning is awful

All DBs and WRs, all of which returned kicks at some point prior, I'm sure. Show me a LB in that group. Your examples are awful. Not to mention, it's been stated several times that the coaches are still working with him, the freshman, to learn the LB position. He needs to focus on that, not pile on learning punt returns also.
