Dude you just don't get it. When you run a COLLEGE football program, being a success is about way more than just one or two parts of game coaching.
In CFB success is measured by wins and losses right?
The head football coach is responsible for every part of the program. Hiring the coaches, recruiting the players, coaching the players, coaching the coaches, handling the press, handling the players, do I need to go on?
To be a WINNING HC in CFB you gotta be good at a lot of things and when you WIN that means you ARE good at a lot of things.
When you have the BEST team in the country....then you ARE the best COACH in the country. Understand now?
We want to "anoint him the best coach in the country" because at WORST he is the 2nd best HC in the country!

this is insane! every coach has occasional blunders and miles has had some very visible ones. to be held accountable years after they happen is crazy. AND other coaches get to skate for their frick-ups. insane i say. be honest, you are female and you are suffering right now. it's ok. hope you feel better tomorrow.

I stated this in a thread rt before the first game. 2 guys in line at gas station were talking about if we had a chance to win a championship, one says not as long as miles is coach. Which is stupid, cus we won a championship last year.
I also recall miles haters saying he at least needs to challenge in the west and win in atlanta. Funny how all that changes to now he has to win a bcs championship every year.

i agree with you concerning the real stupid posts (and probably stupid posters as well) but i was replying to the post that said sometimes we miles supporters fire cannons in retort when none is really needed at all. ie, it was just a minor critisism and not a blanket condemnation. i therefore agreed to back off on said cannon firing in that scenerio only. when one of those "miles is a yankee heathen moron" posts come up, i'll be firing, don't worry. and you did indeed hit the key word when you said ignorance. people that think miles is not a damn good football coach are ate up with it. you don't have to like a man to know he's good at what he does. and, in football, as it is in sales, the measuring stick is mathematical. if you win(sell) a lot, you're good; if not, you are not good.

I had a friend sit next to me during the Washington game and when LSU decided to run the clock out at the end of the first half, my friend said, "Why the frick is he running out the clock? Do you seriously wanna run it out and get nothing when you get easily get a TD in less than 2 minutes? I never liked Les Miles. Just unbelievable. He does nothing but make mistake after mistake. Unbelievable." I really have not heard of anything that stupid in my entire life.

Man you guys are so sensitive. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion I guess. I'm not afraid to state my case as meh when it comes to Miles. I will give him his props though...he is a very good recruiter and he's surrounded himself with people who have made him better than he probably should be.
I know there will be people out their that say that wins and losses are the only thing to judge a coach by...and I say that's not true. What I will say though is that he's done a fantastic job of keeping the momentum from Saban's years...and one could argue that the last two years teams were better than the 03 team.
HOWEVER, a zebra doesn't change his stripes and he's good for another Miles moment here soon. I dare to say that when it happens this board will light up light a christmas tree and people will be calling for his head.
To sum it up, AGAIN, I think Miles is a great general manager of the program. But if Miles had to pick teams in the schoolyard against 10 other SEC coaches and just coach a football game when everybody else's players are as good as his....I'd be lying if I said I thought he'd win.
But then again what do I know.
