But in all seriousness, I haven't completely quit on college sports, but my interest has absolutely diminished in the NIL/portal era. The whole sport just feels like a giant grift and everything revolves around money more than ever before. I'm not claiming that money wasn't involved in the past (obviously, it was) but it was never THIS bad. I still watch most of our games but I don't really watch other teams play, even if it's a top ranked matchup, and I don't watch Gameday or anything like that anymore.

That would be incorrect. Are some of the things the same? For sure.

Of course NIL is a big part of baseball but you don’t have near as much influence by the agents. It’s almost unheard of to have last minute recruiting flips. My favorite part is that there still appears to be a passion for the game. It’s not quite as easy just to buy a championship like Ohio State did this past season.

I’m a casual observer. No yelling cussing screaming heart racing…. I just sit and watch our subcontractors vs. theirs. Tailgating is now a much more enjoyable experience than the actual game. And no I’m not giving them bitches a nickel more than I’ve always given.

I do

Know a ton more who don’t follow it nearly as closely as they once did

Used to know every recruit. Don’t know shite about that now. Couldn’t name half the coaching staff. Stuff like that

Part of that is growing up but part of it is certainly the product seems worse

Also is this your first post since 2007 that wasn’t about 2007

It's not going to stop my enjoyment because the #1 deal is the game on the field.

I know a LOT of people that still follow it, but that have lost some of the passion they used to have prior to NIL. I'd fall into that category. As it continues to get worse, people will continue to lose some of the passion they once had.

I've pulled way back on college sports, and I have noticed I am way, way more willing to actually hate a player.

I haven't quit watching the games but they no longer are a passion. The LSU Sports Talk shows such as OTB and Hunt have little interest now.
It will be interesting the long term effects of government interference.

No, people have more reasons to complain so following the sport is probably higher than it ever has been

71,250 in 2024. We'll see about 2025.

Completely? Not many.

Many I know don't have the same enthusiasm they used to though. Plenty that used to watch games all day but now basically just watch LSU games but don't really follow the rest of the sport. Also a fair bit that don't attend games anymore.

This message expresses how my 30 something’s feel. They love LSU football.

They have little interest in recruiting news.

A little dial back on passion for the team and the sport.

I still read all of this stuff. But harder to get excited.

Got a little down with the SEC media picking us fourth and few of our players on 1st 2nd or 3d team all Sec preseason.

Still watch, etc…. But college sports in general aren’t the same. New team every year, kids playing at 3-4 different schools… it’s a shame

I hate the recruiting talk because just like last year the kid will flip and bail as soon as a more lucrative offer comes along.

Recruiting means nothing anymore. I pay zero attention to recruits.

I don't have friends who have totally quit watching because of NIL, but I think most of my friends and tailgate buddies care less than 5 years ago.
