I'd rather pay a state and local income tax than the property tax I pay on future earnings.

It’s pretty low. 2% sales tax.

That’s on top of the state rate of 6%

I'm pretty sure I paid a Birmingham income tax when I lived there.

I keep reading all of these post about cities that levy an income tax, but how do the cities know how much you earn? The only way to get your annual earnings is to get it from the IRS or the state.

State rate is 4%. But that’s regular. Baton Rouge city tax is 5.75%. Then you have the state too. So in perspective, that 2% is really low.

Philadelphia.
State sales tax - 4%
City sales tax - 2%
City income tax - 4%.
Total 10%

Baton Rouge
State sales tax - 5%
City sales tax - 5.5 to 7.5% (certain areas like mask off Cortana)
Total 10.5 - 12.5%.

I don’t know the state constitution that well, but this is definitely not unconstitutional and almost every city with a professional sports team does this

Don't be a f*cking moron. If you’re going to correct someone make sure you’re f*cking right.

Employers are required to send these cities a copy of your W-2, just like the feds and the state.

I didn’t correct you

I made a tangential but different comment.

Glad I can get you hot and bothered by a total nothing burger though

We do in Kansas City. You don’t even have to live here. You pay it if you work here as well.
