Amazing what a 6-4 top CB in the nation prospect can do when you let him play man over dumb arse soft zone.

Looked like zone to me.

This is the first time a team has challenged him

I guess that poor freshman QB didn’t read the scouting report or maybe he was terrorized by Woodland in ms Prep HS and didn’t want anything to do with him again

Woodland also played a great game.

Dude manned up and kept that slant from getting in for a TD, not a play I’ve seen many corners make.

And one of those Woodland targets was a pass he gave up because it was short of the goal line. He tackled the guy and won the play.

Appreciate you providing numbers. It’s interesting to wonder how many of those catches each guy has given up when they’re in press coverage. Feels like most of the catches they’ve allowed have been when they’re aligned in zone.

s listening to the game live at work, but just got home and watched highlights. 100% agree, he looked great. Especially loved watching him blow up the moo State dude on the wr screen and jar the ball loose to fall incomplete, that was a monster hit, reminded me of the good ole days of LSU D.

Perfect timing. Wasn’t a KO blow but was effective and made them think about throwing that direction again

DBU back.
Even the announcers were saying our defensive backfield was tops in the nation.

They are almost the same because Woodland is better in zone. Pickett is better in man.

Both are very good.

They were saying all broadcast how we are giving up no seperation in man coverage. I get you wanna mix looks but man coverage should be the stable of our defense not zone

Yeah, I’m impressed with both of them in man coverage. They both stick well, but Pickett has that height and reach going for him. Reminds me of Tharold Simon.

I almost never advocate being in straight man coverage more than about 40% of the time. If that happens the offense can reliably catch you in man and run man plays that just can’t be covered no matter how good your DBs are.

You can run man coverage with help over the top and get around this, but that means no pass rush. Or you can run man coverage with switching, but that opens up the defense to big plays due to mistakes in the switches.

Benefield was great as well. Both are holding the fort down.
