Sean Peyton said last night that the trophy was for the city of NOLA. LSU's campaign in 2005 after/during Katrina was for the State of Louisiana.

I consider myself an LSU fan first, and a Saints fan 2nd....I live and die by LSU results...I'm a follower of the Saints, but not as emotionally invested...and I'm not from New Orleans either.

but I don't see where you are really going with that statement.

What's the problem with Payton just saying that....Katrina MAINLY affected New Orleans in the state of Louisiana. As a hole, ppl in New Orleans suffered much more than the rest of the state of Louisiana did.

Hmmm and...
New Orleans Saints
Louisiana State University

This is ridiculously stupid.

Why all these stupid LSU vs Saints threads?

LSU = college
Saints = NFL

They complement each other and aren't in direct competition morons.

GTFO with this shite.

LSU football is boiled crawfish. I gotta have it when season comes around. Saints are like the little potatoes thrown in there. I love 'em but it won't kill me if I don't have them. Sorry that's the best analogy I can come up with.

I suppose them both being football teams and in the same state is totally irrelvant.

You are right, they arent in direct competition, at first I thought we had them on our 2014 schedule.
My bad.

You are right about not being in direct competition. LSU athletics is actually financially self sufficient, whereas the Saints rely on taxpayer money to make a profit. If they were competing, then the Saints would have been long gone.

I know yall think LSU fans are no good a-holes for booing and Saints fans are perfect because they didnt boo a team that won 13 games. I promise you if the Saints had our offense they would be booing. If we had the Saints offense we would not be booing.

The OP is comparing fanbases during a year that one team grossly underachieved and looked piss-poor doing so, and the other is in the Superbowl. Let them both have a down year, then compare.

the Saints' 2007 season wasn't exactly a decade ago

I dont believe the MAJORITY of saints diehards pull for LSU in the same manner.
Am I wrong here?

I actually think it's the opposite. Most people at LSU are Saints fans, but a lot of LSU students are from other states like me. I'm a diehard Titans fan. I believe 20 percent of LSU students are from out of state.

Yes, and I went to a game that year where the dome was pretty empty. The two fan bases are extremely similar and comprised of a lot of the same people. I'm passionate for both, but slightly more for LSU, because I'm a student there and LSU is year round whereas the Saints aren't.

Oh shite, another poster typing crap.
If this was true, then I want my thousands of dollars a year I spend on for my season tickets.

Saints don't ask me for a donation fee.

You mean that the Saints win with a Coach who has so many weapons yet the other team doubles the Saints offensive production; and has twice as many plays, and has a defense that bends but does not break.

Sound familiar?

OK, ready? Louisiana State University. New Orleans Saints Football team. Anything?

Then why do people whine so much that a lot of NW LA folks are Cowboy fans?

I was born a Cowboys Fan, Saints have always been second. When I moved to AZ in '94 I changed to a Cardinals fan, Saints still 2nd.
Pro teams come and go....but LSU is FOREVER.

It's also the college football vs NFL thing. I just don't enjoy NFL as much. I am a diehard LSU fan but don't care as much if the 49ers suck (which they usually do).

Lots of Saints diehards are from MS and southern AL. Thats why they aren't necessarily LSU fans. I love both and enjoy one as much as the other. LSU has always been a more unhealthy obsession for me, though.

Oh shite, another ignorant tax payer. Of course the Saints don't ask you for a donation fee, because every citizen of Louisiana is actually obligated to support them, like it or not. If LSU had the sweetheart deal the Saints have with the state, then you probably would not need to pay that "thousands of dollars a year" to LSU. Do you really not see the difference? I would rather choose where to spend my money and not have an old geezer bend me over every year and force me to put money in his pockets.

that's correct, why should they if they did not go LSU?

Lots of NFL fans do not follow college football.
