Did Orgeron's Louisiana origins really make him more appealing to some on this board?

I know the "he talk like us" joke and I don't doubt that legit played a part in his hiring when it came to the boosters, BOS, etc.

But were there people on this board that really wanted him hired because he had Louisiana roots? If so, why is/was that important to you?

I think that’s the only thing that attracted some to him. Other than that he’s an idiot with a losing coaching record coming into the job. No way was he qualified to take the LSU job

Local roots have a deep meaning to some, but he was no different than any journeyman football coach that was able to find lightning in a bottle in 2019.

Unfortunately, he could not replicate the formula. Whether it was the mix of bad coordinators or a couple of bad recruits, the buck stops with the head coach. Also, changes in his life could have impacted his coaching.

Whomever LSU hires will follow the same fate, we will find someone who will have a few good years, then poof back to mediocrity. Hopefully, they don’t give anyone a long term deal. They should do 1 or 2 year deals to keep the coaches on edge that way there are no golden parachutes.

I’ll be honest. I’m from the southern part of the state. When he was hired I was glad and thought he deserved a chance, and most of the people I knew were happy about it as well. Of course, we would have been happier had Saban, Sean Payton, etc been hired, but of the candidates we were aware of I thought he had as good a shot as anyone at doing well. It was and is painful to hear people call him a shrimp boat captain, but we thought that no one would work harder than he would. I am thrilled with 2019 and no one can take that away from our fans, but I am also very disappointed in the the last 2 seasons, and all of the Title IX issues, etc. it is definitely time for him to go.

In short, I guess those who were happy about the hire were rooting for the home town guy/ underdog to win. Most of us did not know of all the baggage he brought with him. I just hoped he had learned from previous mistakes and would do well.

We thought he would nurture this program and build it, because he would love it more, being from Louisiana. Instead, he treated it like a wife he was initially in love with, but grew to despise…wait…

You must not read the Book of Faces. The Karens on there were all irate when we tossed the Ogre, with “he’s one of us” being a common theme. Just like with Les, the eccentric behavior (I’m being kind) is sort of cute when you’re steamrolling teams, it just adds to the national embarrassment otherwise.

I think it helped him for sure. I think Ed’s Louisiana roots gave him to ability to make legitimate deep emotional claims about how much it meant to him and some were sympathetic and some were charmed.

Again- O is fired and gone but his career at LSU will always be success. You can’t be the head coach responsible for Burrow and 19 and be a failure.

I am very glad Woodward was here to pull the plug at the right time though

No because Alleva was an idiot. Ananda Islas assistant head coach and was past over for the caveman. I do not care what state LSU’s coach is from as long as they win.

Was never a good hire. He can recruit, that’s it. Doesn’t add value on offense and makes defense use a scheme that causes us to be worst LSU defense of all time. Our admin messed it up royally. Then, when the miracle of 2019 happened, they extended him. Why? Nobody was coming after him….what was his other option, quit?

Yes. I know many people that wanted him over Jimbo and others. When he was hired my argument was hiring someone like him from South Lafourche and using the “He’s one of us” moniker is like Alabama hiring someone from Butler, Alabama with three teeth left in their head to coach their team. It is just not happening at Alabama.

I lived in upper lafourche for 12 years and during the time of the Ed hiring and had hunting land in Butler, Al for about 5 years.

I have a lot of good friends and there are good people in South Lafourche but then there is this other group that thinks their shite don’t stink, they cheat on their wives, like getting into bar room fights, and are the big fish in a little pond. They have that air about them that I will do whatever I want and frick you. I got that vibe from Ed. The second year at LSU, a relative of his coached (a second cousin if I remember right) was my daughters coach for PE in high school. He definitely gave off those vibes.

The more I learned, the Orgeron’s were a lot like the Hodson’s just a little further up the bayou. Tommy kept his family away from that environment but the whole Hodson family is assholes except maybe Tommy. I never meet him but heard many times he kept his distance. The sister would ramble on about feeding her kids organic and how she is the greatest thing since slice bread because she was the Lockport elementary school principal. Blah blah blah.

He wasn’t my choice but if he had any sense he would’ve hired the right coordinators and made it work.

I was really angry when Miles was fired without a replacement locked down. In my head at least O was getting his dream job and there was very little risk of him leaving for anywhere else. So naturally, if we had any sense we pay him a middle of the road salary. I mean let’s be honest no one was beating down the door to steal him, even after 2019.

Then we go an frick it all up and give him 20 million reasons to shite the bed. In all honesty, this is the only thing that has me currently uncomfortable about the next hire. We’ll figure a way to frick it up.

Yes it’s been mentioned in several posts if he would have just been able to surround himself with a better staff he would have survived. This also leads one to believe that better, more experienced coordinators would not work for him. I mean who wants an a-hole boss that knows less than you. In life chase good management, not money, that will come. How was Ed going to advance a competent coordinators career, he’s not.

2019 surprised the hell out of me. I always thought he would be a disaster.
