Yeah, everyone knows cops do absolutely nothing wrong, ever. And most act that way, too.

I mean in this case, from what I remember Collins baby mama ended up dead and he wasn’t ruled out as a suspect until after the draft. The police dept works on their own timeline, not what helps his draft position the most.

This situation and the Guice situation are more of an indictment on the nfl gm’s/owners avoiding risk where at all possible

I can confirm this. In college my apartment was burglarized during Christmas break and my shotgun was stolen. BRPD called me 13 months later to ask me if I ever found my lost firearm.

I don't see why you would expect different out of any police department. Unless it shows up in another crime or someone tries to sell it and the serial number is flagged, how would you expect the police department to locate a stolen firearm? Or are you saying they're a sham because they followed up on it? I would say that's not reasonably expected out of any PD either. You realize how many home burglaries they deal with every year?

I'm not saying Collins case has any official wrongdoing from the police, but they were obviously being petty and vindictive about something.

Eh, it was a murder that had no suspects and no leads. They still don't have any leads or suspects. If they didn't talk to everyone that could possibly know anything that could help their investigation, then they wouldn't be doing their job. Interviewing a former boyfriend isn't exactly yanking someone out of left field. It was incredibly unfortunate timing for Collins, but I'm sure the girl's family felt the same way about the girl dying.

This, and actually if I remember right there were insinuations and allegations that that Goodell's office had put out the do not draft label on him and to think of how it played out... I do not know if he suffered much money in the first year, but it did appear to be the ideal draft spot and Gerry Jones was lucky enough to sign? Planned

His agent is the one who cost him the 1st round money.
As soon as Lael was named a "person of interest" his agent should have brought him back to Baton Rouge immediately for him to answer BRPD questions. That would have cleared him (as it did once he actually met with BRPD) and the agent could have asked for a letter from BRPD Chief D'Abadie to NFL General Managers stating that based on his testimony that he was no longer a person of interest. I think this would have kept him a high 1st rounder.

They had to talk to him due to his relationship with her.

Believe he elected to withdraw from the draft and I believe they ruled him out as a suspect prior to draft day.

Maybe he should sue his agent for bad advise.

Maybe he was not a fan of who was projected to draft him so he took advantage of the opportunity to select the team he wanted to go to

At any rate what does it matter now and who cares. He is banking now.

So some of you honestly believe that the Baton Rouge Police Department (or any PD) should investigate a murder while putting a "person of interest" as more important than the investigation itself?

The stupidity of some of you is laughable.

His beef should be with Goodell. I think it highly probable that he sent a mandate to every franchise that Collins be avoided or risk severe penalty.

I agree with this. Anyone criticizing the police, in this case, is nuts. But I believe, as you do, that the league dodged Collins, and it wasn’t separate decisions by each team.

I’m sure Collins’ agent is more savvy than we are, and perhaps he forced the league to make it up to Collins somehow.

You also dont want cops to make investigative decisions based on civil liability

They need to be held accountable for their actions. I don't care how it happens but it needs to happen. As far as the Collins situation goes it was just unfortunate for everyone concerned. I seem to remember that the family was flinging accusations.

The police wanted to talk to Collins and Collins evaded them for 4 days. He could’ve cleared his name sooner, but either way there’s no liability in wanting to question him.

The BRPD definitely fricked him. They didn’t have to make interviewing him so public or could have put the word out to NFL sources if he wasn’t a suspect. I think they thought he was the main suspect at the time and wanted to put pressure on him. That said, he would never win a lawsuit.

So are you suggesting that the police should have put an investigation of a murder on hold until AFTER tha NFL draft?

You even said the police said he wasn’t not a suspect. If anything the problem is with the NFL not BRPD.

He is and that’s dumb. What Collins needed was his name cleared sooner, not later. The police were doing their job correctly, Collins’ agent should’ve told him to get his arse to Baton Rouge, meet with the police, and clear his name. Collins waited four days. His agent fricked him, not the police.

If anyone didn’t think you were a brain dead idiot, they do now.

It is could have, could’ve if you want to shorten it.

Is there any scenario where the phrase “could of” makes any sense at all.

You are stupid and every time you post in this thread proves it.

If this could be proven he may have a case against Goodell and the NFL. But not BRPD.

He has no case vs anyone at this point. He has already made more money than lineman drafted that year in the first round. By being a free agent he was not tied in to the first round contracts and was able to get a pretty big contract two years in.

Don't get me wrong. I am all on Collins' side. He was definitely hurt by this murder. And how the facts played out was unfortunate. However, nothing wrong or negligent about police wanting to talk to a witness or suspect. Police should not be subjected to civil liability for treating the "privileged" the same way common folk are treated. From a societal standpoint, a murder and finding the culprit should supersede NFL draft.

Watching the game and got to wondering if he ever sued the city for all money he lost in draft. I hope he did that guy deserves to be reimbursed for the BR incompetence and lack of ability to clear a non-suspect. Anyone know if he did?
