this is correct.

Canada's "system" didn't fool good defenses. Just a fact.

We were pretty much even with Alabama offensively in their place. Missed on deep balls that were available.

I disagree. I think Canada's offense was based on getting more players to one side of the ball and outnumbering the defense. There's times you'll catch them outnumbered, (fora nice gain) and times where they don't take the bait. Kinda like the wishbone. Stop it, stop it, stop it and then boom the back is off to the races.

O wants a pro style, pocket passer, two back offense like Southern Cal hay days.

I hope so cause his name is on the next OC hire just like it was for the last one. He should be held accountable for it

But we got that, and more of it, last year.

How many 200+ games by a back last year?

The shifts are in service of the reads, they largely aren't used to fool a defense. To be clear, there are some shifts that are for decoy or deceptive purposes, but the garden variety shifting is to help the offense with their reads.
thank you. and I'd add that sometimes is was to create favorable blocking situations without changing formation. In those cases, the read is the same as reading the FB. Except he was in motion across the face and it could be anywhere along motion direction. Causes mis-steps, sometimes more favorable angles for OL.

Opposing teams, when the line would do their shifts, you could hear them yelling to each other to stay where they were. It was all window dressing.

Oh yeah. And when the defense stayed put, we never changed the play toward the shift.

This is the stupidest thing MD has ever said.

I agree with you on all that but Canada still works for O and the head coach still has the final say. I know many on here say “he is supposed to let the coaches coach” I think they take that to mean the HC doesn’t have any say so in how the program is run and input on gameplans...that is impossible to have the head coach has to have the ultimate power. I will wait to see who we hire...hell maybe we will all be thrilled. If it’s ensminger the melt will be bad .

I don't care about dirty pool or stuff like that. But I just hope like hell this isn't trying to throw dirt on Canada to lesson the impact of if they try to pull an Ensminger hire.

because Bama didnt need to. we never got closer than down 2 possessions after the 1st quarter. there was no need for bama to risk anything on offense.

Rickdaddy, if we could find a way to magically and instantaneously replace Alleva with Herb Vincent, we'd forever be eligible for $0.50 corndogs.

Otherwise, we both just keep fighting the good fight, as we each see it.

Rick is right about this. The stats of that game were misleading because Bama was comfortably ahead early and played very conservatively. If the game had been closer, we'd have seen more offensive production from them. But they didn't need it.

So your saying we we moved a tackle to an offset line other teams would react to that?

Moving players changes assignments.

defensive assignments are based on formation. You can’t just “not move”

Haha im surreee it was just that simple.

Honestly, it just changes your gap assignments as a DL. It wasn't much of a change, but he was trying to make defenses think of their assignments instead of just being ready to react and play football.
