It happened to my father with my older brother. This was 1996 and my dad has never truly recovered. Also a gunshot wound. I hope this family can find peace, as best they can. It’s truly an unimaginable agony and makes you question everything.

I just lost my dad on the 14th and the grief comes in waves. Losing a child? A baby? The grief must be constant and never ending. I couldn’t even imagine.

I’m sorry to hear about your dad dude. That’s awful. And yes, it never leaves a parent when they lose a child. My brother passed 23 years ago yesterday, and my dad cried like a baby. He still does for every birthday and anniversary of his death. It’s heartbreaking and so unfair.

We lost our daughter to meningitis 40 years ago. I can assure you the grief doesn't go away. There's no truth to the saying that time heals all wounds.

I’m hearing that he got ahold of the gun somehow and shot himself. But unless the gun has a trigger kit to lower the force how could he

Thanks for fixing the title, admins. Had to step away for a bit.
Horrible news. Prayers for the little guy's family.

Can the owner be prosecuted? Probably not.

There are so many incidents out there it must be possible but still it just surprises me. Some guns have trigger pulls that are over 8 pounds on the first pull.

Louisiana does not have any CAP (Child Access Prevention) laws.
This means that an adult can not be held criminally responsible for the negligent storing of a firearm that a child accesses.
Even conservative gun-friendly states like a Texas, Mississippi, and Florida have CAP laws.

This accident occurred in Katy, Tx.

The child, Radyn Terrell, found the gun in a bedroom at his family's home in the 28200 block of South Firethorne Road and shot himself, police said. He was airlifted to a nearby hospital and died around 4 p.m. Sunday, according to Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Major Chad Norvell.
Norvell identified the child as a relative to Derrius Guice, a Louisiana native who in 2018 joined the NFL team as a running back.
Guice said in a tweet Sunday that his “little cousin” was brain dead.

"My little man fought so hard," Guice said in a written statement. "I wish I could take your place and be the one and not you. You will be missed buddy!"
The child found the .38-calber pistol in the bedroom and shot himself in the head, Norvell said.
“The father said it was on a chest of drawers, five feet up or so,” Norvell said. “He got the gun and like boys do, they’re curious, he shot himself in the eye.”
The child’s father was home at the time of the shooting and he frantically carried the boy outside “trying to stop vehicles,” the spokesman continued. First responders arrived soon after a 911 call and the boy was flown to a hospital.
The child’s fatal injuries were reported to CPS and the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office is reviewing the death for possible charges, Norvell said.
“As a parent, I know there would be no words one could say to console me after the loss of a child,” Sheriff Troy Nehls tweeted later on Sunday. “Friends and family can only embrace them and be there for them as they work through the healing. My prayers are with the family.”
