I would jump on Chavis right now. That guy has kept that D in the top 20 even though UT has a losing record. I believe that says alot about he D. LSU has a little disappointment and their D packed it in a month ago.

How is the talent that Tennessee has on their defense comparable to what LSU has? I think LSU is bringing in better talent these days than UT. Our young defense got some experience this year. We know we have the talent. If he can get the UT defense to 16th, what could he do with LSU? Does anyone know if he is an aggressive coach?

Tennessee's defense is very good.

The main reason their season tanked is because their offense was a cess pit.

If Les wants Chavis he needs to move quick. I think a new DC before the bowl game would be wise, it may convince juniors to stay and help recruiting.

I believe LSU has the talent, they just need the right leader. I don't believe Chavis is the Muschamp type that shits his pants everytime his D makes a stop, but he is a proven D cood. that definitely wouldn't need to learn as he goes. The problem I see with bring in a guy from outside the sec is that this new guy will have to figure out how the sec offenses run. With Chavis, he probably knows more about whichever offense he's going against than anyone else out there.

Keep in mind that a lot of that list is incorrect...as in those guys aren't really the coordinators.

USCs is Pete Carroll
TCUs is there head coach (can't remember name)
Alabama is Saban

Chavis is the 4th name on that list from the SEC behind Strong (not coming here) Johnson, and Steele (not really the co-ordinator).

Not bad in my opinion.

Whatever happen to Joe Kines? That guy's defenses were pretty damn solid.

Worthless list. It's bases solely on this season, and they have Muschamp at #4, which is way too high after watching Texas' defense this year. I love they guy, but the Texas hasn't been impressive IMO.

I guess you liked the way Florida scored on them as well as Clemson? And don't start with all our talent stuff. I like the Ole Miss DC better.

Wasn't Low Tepper a highly regarded defensive mind before he came into the SEC?

no, he had produced some great Linebackers but his teams got worse under his tenure.

John Chavis is ranked 14th for those who think he should be hired...

Despite the down year on O for Tenn. they finish strong on D. Held a better than ave Kentucky team to less than 200 yards yesterday. I take my chance on a provin D coach who has been in the SEC for several years. Even Saban saw the writting on the wall concerning the familiarity of a coach with the SEC when he hired Jimbo as our OC.

I have never understood why Strong isn't sought after more. I'm sure he would never make a lateral move, but why not as a head coach?

Maybe he has no desire to be a HC? Its entirely possible that he is happy being a very good DC. Not every DC or OC is looking for a HC job. I guess it all depends on the individual and his goals.
