Talent is the issue when they’re all hurt and can’t run. A 5* at 70% isn’t a 5*. Of the 4 you named 3 have missed significant time and 2 are still visibly injured but playing on will alone.

Really, really bad take. I referenced scoring defense. Teams are getting in the endzone, they are bending and breaking.

Ohio state and Clemson play offensive juggernauts each week.

You think Ole Miss is an offensive juggernaut?

Clearly you can't be serious. This defense has given up big plays going all the way back to Texas. Just in the Bama and Ole Miss games, I can think of 7 50 yard plus plays. The defense clearly has problems. I just hope they can fix them.

In terms of talent

It's easy to name the leader of the O and it's weapons.

Name the leader of this D and it's weapons.

Tired of the finger pointing, there's enough blame to go around for the staff and more so with the players.

Just a judgement call here but, this is a very uninspired defense across the board.

I've enjoyed the ride thus far.

I'm not worried in the least about LSU's defensive performance against Ole Miss cause LSU won't face them or a team like them again this season. As that game is an anomaly. Indeed, an outlier.

Had Dave Aranda prepared the defense to face a triple-option team as he did for the Georgia Southern game, Plumlee and his two running backs wouldn't have been able to run the ball all over LSU.

If you want to blame anything for that game Saturday night, blame Dave Aranda for not preparing the defense to play a triple-option offense cause essentially that is what Plumlee and those two running back were.

The effect our leaders like Delpit and Lawrence being hurt has had cannot be overstated. The extra rest before the playoffs will do wonders for this D.

How is it coaching when it’s the personnel that’s changed and not the coach? We have 6/7 starters injured, playing hurt or not even on the team anymore. The discrepancy in yards per play from 2017 to this year is the same between 2016 and 2017 yet nobody noticed back then, why is that? It’s because of the big plays, we give up big plays in the run game because we’re a very slow defense. Our LBs are average at best and 3 or 4 secondary players can’t run because of injury. And we can’t replace those guys because there’s no depth. Joseph, Divinity, Thomas, Harris were all starters and rotation guys and are all gone. We give up big plays in the passing game because we have no pass rushers. The team leaders in sacks last season were Divinity and Delpit, we also had Anthony who flashed at times. Divinity is gone Anthony doesn’t play, Delpit is playing center field so we can’t use him to blitz like we used to. Take any LSU defense then take away their top 4-5 pass rushers and ask yourself what that would look like. Aranda didn’t forget how to coach.

Don't bring common sense here King!!

we pay a guy 2.5 million to make it work. Every team has injuries and most of CFB has far less talent than LSU.

If DA can only field a great defense loaded with NFL talent and depth WTF do we need him for?

You make a great point, no doubt.

LSU has played more offensively talented teams too though. It’s been a season to be thankful for nonetheless.

Alabama scored on their last 4 possessions. They started on their own 5, 22, 25 and 15. They actually scored on 4 out of 5 of their 2nd half possessions.

Maybe we are not in very good shape defensively or no depth. or both.

I know it’s frustrating I get it but the reaction here, although typical, is just ridiculous. There’s nothing wrong with Aranda, he’s doing everything he can to find a way to cover up the holes but we just lack healthy players. If this D were as healthy as last season it would be a totally different story. We need the big break before the playoffs badly. If guys can heal up enough I think we’ll see a big improvement.

This is so dumb.... Ole Miss is absolutely an SEC powerhouse right? Ole miss would be one of those trash ACC or B10 schools that Clemson and OSU boat race. This is not a rebuttal to trant saying we have a real issues on defense.

Leading SEC in rushing. Hung 31 points and nearly 500 yards on Bama.

The Aranda apologists will tell you we don't have any players, which is insane. It's about SCHEME. Like maybe bringing more pressure and don't play a damn rush 3 and drop 8 scheme 90% of the time. Aranda is a bust. Oh, since we don't have players, doesn't he have a say in recruiting defensive players? Asking for some that don't think giving up over FIVE HUNDRED YARDS OF OFFENSE a game is very good.

I agree, it is mostly on the players and I'll give Aranda 25% of the blame. Guys were not playing their gaps well Saturday. Give Plumlee a little credit, the dude can flat out fly and once he was in the secondary, it was pretty much over.

In terms of talent, where would this defense rank? Top 10? Top 15 at least right?
No.

Forget stars, aside from Fulton and Stingley and Shelvin, not one of these players is playing well enough to say they are the most talented,

We are not seeing anyone step up and just out athlete anyone. As unpopular as this will be, it is the truth. You cant just say that they are talented, they have to prove it. Our DL is laughable. ZERO disruption ever in the run or pass game, all pressure is on the back half of our defense. This is year 3 of this crap.
