Its not death valley its the fricking product on the field.
This offense hasnt been ranked in the top 50 but one year in like 10 . If the product was better and entertaining to watch the fans would stay but my god the offense is painful to watch.

The slow death started with introduction of the big screen TV. and the loss of near stadium free parking. All other reasons given is just noise.

This is complete bullshite. I saw nobody bitching about the team performance and getting up to leave. What I saw was Moms and Pops leaving with the kids steady after 2nd quarter. I also was amazed at the exodus after the band halftime show ended...

There are probably ones who are not satisfied with the product on the field but I would bet they were the ones who stayed because they care enough to be upset.

We had season tickets from 86-92. It was a lot different then.

Even during the bad times when we would lose 4-6 games a year the stadium rocked. There wasn’t so many rules to make it “family friendly “.

I don't live near Baton Rouge. Up until 2006 I used to fly in for about 4 games a year to go with my brother. (He gave up his season tickets for age/medical reasons). We didn't leave games early and we yelled our asses off.
Why bother having tickets if you aren't going to attend and support the team with your voices and attention for the entire game?
Buying a ticket doesn't mean shite if you don't participate.
The "most passionate fans in CFB" and intimidating venue myth has been exposed. That was a bygone era. It's about the party before, not the game itself.

This has been going on for almost ten years.

During very close SEC games I have witnessed the stadium emptying out.

It’s embarrassing.

It’s not the coach, it’s not parking, it’s not the shitty offense, it’s not the “product on the field”.

It’s fans leaving because they suck. And they are shitty fans.

I could see leaving during like Troy in 08 or Bama in 2002. Or a little early when we are up by 40 in the fourth and all our back ups are in.

This is an issue starting at HALFTIME on close games.

Death Valley is defined by the fans. If it's dying it's our fault

all this shite went downhill when we hired Alleva
It all went downhill when the SEC Network was formed. Most people will rather stay home to watch in HD, drink good beer, eat good food, and be in the A/C than go to the stadium and deal with all the other BS.

It's hella-fricking convenient to have every game on tv, but it also took away from the whole thing too. Used to be, you had the 1's (ranking the crowd) showing up for EVERY game, because not a whole lot of games were televised and if they weren't on ESPN, it was on shitty Tigervision.

Now, you have a small percentage of 1's, and mostly 2's and 3's (hand me down tickets, newbies, freebies) going to these games. These people aren't diehard LSU fans. Most of them were given tickets for free and just decided to show up and make a day of it. By the time the game starts, they are so beaten down from the sun and the elements from tailgating all day, they do what they can to stay until halftime, and then they bolt for the exits. There is no motivation to stay because they don't care as much as the 1's crowd does. The 1's are the ones that stay to the end because they love LSU, some graduated from LSU and/or grew up on LSU.

As a one time season ticket holder from 1985 to 2014, I saw it with my own eyes. We had all the regulars in my section. Then, somewhere right after the 2007 National Championship, the 4 seats to my left and right were 4 different people every single game.

And the people that I saw who were different from the regulars were the ones who always ended up leaving early. And they were too busy taking selfies and making 3 or 4 trips to the concessions stand than actually watching the game. Getting them to particpate in all the cheers and yelling? Forget it. Nope.

(Cliff's notes - SEC network and every game being on tv destroyed the atmosphere by keeping the regulars home).

I agree, this is not unique to LSU. Attendance is down at most schools.

Tailgating has been better than the game for over a decade, and now tailgating is just getting worse and worse

Yeah, but back then there wasn't wide spread internet on cell phones and the TV quality was crap.

And there was nothing to do. Tickets were cheap enough for a working man to bring his family. Plus, most men were masculine back then. Football is a man’s game. Kids aren’t playing football at the playground anymore, because we’re becoming a nation of metrosexuals. This is changing everything - our culture and our politics.

To masculine men, football is their game and capitalism, red in tooth and claw, is what they want. As men become more feminine they want less violent sports, if any at all, and they want the security of socialism more than the opportunity of capitalism. Football and capitalism are going away. It sucks for some of us, but the buttercups have every right to shape their culture just as we shaped ours.

find some way to fix the fricking traffic after the game.

Bingo. There's a big part of the problem right there. The access roads to Tiger Stadium are wholly inadequate to handle huge flow of traffic on game night. LSU increased the capacity of the stadium but nothing was done about the access roads. No brainer.

Plus Alleva et al has this lingering problem. How ya gonna keep'um down on the farm (LSU Stadium) after they've seen poor play?

As you were.

What about TxAM? What are they doing that's different, seems to be dedicated crowds in attendance.

For you maybe, but for me I would much rather be at the stadium with the atmosphere of the old death valley with family and friends. The game day atmosphere for me has been ruined.

False. There was barely any traffic after the game. Of course that's because everyone left before half.
