That's fine with me. Good riddance. But I actually hate that extremely stupid 'Beanie Tiger' so many here seem to love inexplicably as referenced in that article. That one is WAAAAYYY worse than Toonces in my opinion. I just cannot understand the love for that monstrosity.

This part just isn't true. I and a few other posters back on Tiger Roar were sent the logo from a member of the LSU Media a few days before launch, and it was universally panned by anyone who saw it instantly. When it was posted on the board, someone at LSU (I forget her name) went into a hissy fit about it being pirated, etc...but the problem wasn't that it got leaked early, but that it got leaked early AND everyone hated it. The only reason the stupid thing caught on AT ALL was because LSU went into a winning frenzy starting in 2001 and sales of merchandise went through the roof. Toonces sold by default, even with many fans like myself actively avoiding it when purchasing things.

It was an abortion of a design, and Phoenix Design should feel bad for giving the world such crappy artwork. Anyone at LSU who signed off on it should feel badly as well. It was horrendous...good riddance.

On the other hand, I've always liked the Geaux Font, so good work there.

I get why they were looking to rebrand things. Back in 2002 LSU was still using that block LSU with the script Tigers over the bottom. That looked really dated, so I could see a change.

But they chose a design company whose work was, well...beyond shitty when it came to collegiate logos. Some of their advertising and brand work was really good...but the group tagged with doing collegiate logos was just horrendous. So even going with Phoenix was a bad call.

But when they came back to the table with that first design with the arms at that crazy angle, superimposed over a goddamn hurricane symbol and the font triple outlined, someone should have kicked them in the genitals and told them to get the frick out. Instead, someone cut them a check and LSU unveiled the thing. I'd love to have been a fly on the wall at the meeting where the LSU brass all sat around and said, "Yeah...frickin' A! That's perfect!" Who sold them in that meeting, Don Draper?!?
