It’s amazing that college grads don’t get how cool deaf valley is as a play on words - deaf valley and deaf dome would have been great marketing monikers - anyway - we’re not always the brightest when it comes to promoting ourselves

was l.s.u.fotball stadium ever called deaf valley?
Yes, it was! LSU’s Tiger Stadium was originally nicknamed “Deaf Valley” because of how incredibly loud the crowd could get during games. The name reflected the stadium’s reputation for being one of the most intimidating and ear-splitting environments in college football.
Over time, the nickname evolved into “Death Valley,” especially after LSU defeated Clemson in the 1959 Sugar Bowl. Interestingly, Clemson’s Memorial Stadium had already been called “Death Valley” since 1948, so the two schools have long shared a friendly rivalry over who owns the title. LSU coach Brian Kelly even recently stirred the pot by calling Clemson’s stadium “Death Valley Junior”3.

LOL chuck anyone can build a web site and say anything, remember 9-11 there were over 40 sites saying a missile hit the pentagon and that the planes had a missile below the body of the plane that hit the towers.
I had to print off over 200 pictures of the plane parts, including the landing gear, seats, engine parts, outer body parts with the lettering on it to prove to co-workers it was a plane.
Then had to blow up the pictures of the planes hitting the tower.
What you find on the web has to be proven, before you believe what you read.
Also what you find in books have to be rpoven before having frim believe in what is written.
Just because something is written, does not make it so.

I’m as old as Mark Roman…if you know you’re LSU roster history…btw. I did confuse the Deaf Dome w/ Death Valley, thus this is how maturity closes the thread.

Y’all stop the madness. We took it from Clemson and have expounded upon it. This year let’s remind them who is the true keeper of that moniker because of our dominance. Please quit coming late and leaving early and yell like ya have a pair. The last few years have been weak.

Trump renamed it when he brought Mount McKinley back.

Always been Death Valley…

Research, it was originally “deaf’ valley because of the noise LSU fans generated and in 1959 after defeating Clemsion many started calling it ‘death’ valley. Then it was later officially name Death Valley as now seen on the stadium.

Are you 16 or something?

In the 1980s there was a cool poster, that sold many copies. There was one in our local McDonald’s that had Mike the Tiger sitting in a tree overlooking tiger stadium. It said death Valley, Louisiana.
My dad, who was a student from 1970 to 1974 (and came back a few years later for another degree) told me then that when he was in undergrad, it was called “deaf valley”. Somewhere in the mid 70s, I believe, LSU started promoting “death Valley “.

I don't remember it being anything other than Death Valley, so it's been a long time.

... when Les talking about opponents dreams dying or something...???
We took it (not stole it, took it) from Clemson in 1959.
Before that, Tiger Stadium had been known as "Deaf Valley" because of the crowd noise. There was even a local Shell gas station near the stadium that was nicknamed "Deaf Valley Shell" because of the raucous crowd noise overheard from Tiger Stadium on gamedays.
According to former LSU sports information director Bud Johnson, "No one called it Death Valley here until after we played Clemson in the Sugar Bowl" in 1959.

A long time ago the pmac was called the deaf dome

Lots of misinterpretation here. There are documented Death Valley references dating back to the 30s and even some at State Field prior to 1910. As a play on words, in the 1950s, there was a gas station just outside the gates of LSU called Deaf Valley.
In the Late 70s, Dale Brown started referring to the PMAC as The Deaf Dome.
As far as official adoption (through naming on the stadium) goes, Clemson has us on that one. We may have earlier references but they alsohave a physical graveyard outside the stadium. Tombstones and all.
