I suspect the OL will be pretty good, question is whether it’s far enough along to avoid negative plays (ie false starts, blown assignments) in a noisy and hostile environment on day 1 with a new center and new personnel across the board. Key to the game, and if Davis and Kelly can pull that off, it would be no small feat and I’d be fully convinced this program is on target.

Well we had an elite O line last year but couldn't run the ball

I want to say the 1st down run stats were not bad but we threw on first a lot. Cole Cubelic noted that LSU ran on downs where its was easier for the box to be loaded like 3rd and short rather than on 1st. Its hard to get a feel for run blocking when you don't do it that much.

Hunt said the LG split early in camp was chester getting more reps and now its about 50/50. Paul M is pushing it seems.

Brian Kelly still likes what he has seen from LSU's offensive line, in part because new center Braelin Moore "sets up the rest of the group for success." "This group is going to be really good."

I think he's right here. It's mostly having an elite center(Cush) and a QB with good pocket awareness that made the 2019 Oline so effective. Im starting to have less worries about the Oline.

He really struggled getting thrown in the fire but did get better as he played last season. He seems like he catches on to coaching quickly.

I love LSU sports, most all of them.

Football players have NEVER caused me to be erect...and never will. I guess I was built differently back in the old days, compared to you younger guys.

Now as for the OL....I've heard that before. I WANT to believe, but, that is one are that I'm going to have to see it for myself.

The Jujuan Johnson bit is interesting. Starting reps.

BK made a point in his presser to say he was going to get a lot of playing time this season.

I thought this unit sucked though?

I mean last year we had guys talking about how we were going to run the ball down USC's throat. If you are saying that the OL is going to be good because BK said they were going to be good in a press conference go ahead I guess

our rosters since O left have been scraped together as much as we can but this is the first year I see stability at every level.

I hope you are not seriously trying to blame O for the lack of competent players in YEAR THREE.

I hope you realize that because of O's failures that Kelly had to come in & scrap together a recruiting class that only signed 15 players in 2022. Signing such a small class undoubtedly affected the teams depth & ability to have more "competent" players in year 3. Ray Charles could see that & he's blind & dead now.

I think Gooden and Moore will be the biggest signings for LSU. It can't really be stressed how much a C can stabilize the OL and he has been rock steady since coming here. Gooden seems like he's one of those undersized lineman that always penetrates with his quickness/anticipation and has a motor that never stops. Consistent pressure up the middle on a defensive line completely changes the complexion towards a game especially for your defensive gameplan.

Does Stamps move to nickel with DJ on the outside on passing downs? PJ Woodland has been playing really well according to reports. Will be interesting to see who's ahead out of those 2.

The #LSU Depth Chart is beginning to take shape on defense: DT: Bernard Gooden + Dominick McKinley EDGE: Jack Pyburn + Gabe Reliford LB: Whit Weeks + West Weeks STAR: H. Perkins CB: Mansoor Delane + A. Stamps S: AJ Haulcy + T. Cooley A ways to go, but the consistent 1st Team.

will trust the coaches on this one, but i do hope that pickett takes over stamps spot as the season progresses.

The guy who said that went #5 overall in the past NFL Draft so terms in his overall ability, he was pretty damn GOOD.

No, I'm basing my opinion on several factors & not just one interview given by BK. How about the fact that the team upgraded with a veteran player at center in Braelin Moore?

quote:

SOPHOMORE SEASON (2024 at Virginia Tech)
Started all 12 regular-season games at center for the Hokies … Played a total of 754 snaps with a season-high coming against Duke … Allowed only 3 sacks all season … Yielded sacks in first 2 games of season and then allowed only 1 sack for the remainder of the year (vs. Syracuse in week 10) … Helped the Hokies average 178.4 yards rushing in his 12 starts … Paved the way for 1,000-yard rusher Bhayshul Taten.

Does adding the experience of Josh Thompson not help?

quote:

Blue-chip offensive lineman who joins the Tigers after starting 21 games over the past 2 seasons at Northwestern … Started 11 games at right tackle in 2023 followed by 10 starts at right guard in 2024 … Comes to LSU with 1,429 career offensive snaps, 731 at right tackle and 657 at right guard … In 2 seasons starting on the offensive line at Northwestern, surrendered only 2 sacks in 833 pass blocking opportunities … Did not allow a sack over the final 18 games he played at Northwestern (10 in 2024, final 8 of 2023) …

Having someone seasoned like Tyree Adams returning is a plus.

quote:

REDSHIRT FRESHMAN SEASON (2024)
Appeared in 8 games with 2 starts … Started at left tackle in LSU’s Texas Bowl win over Baylor and at left guard in week 2 win over Nicholls (38 snaps) … Played a total of 139 offensive snaps with a career-best 61 coming in Texas Bowl … Saw extended action at Florida (26 snaps) when he was pressed into the lineup due to an injury to Garrett Dellinger … Didn’t allow a sack in 82 pass blocking opportunities … Saw action at 4 positions on the offensive line (77 at LT, 38 at LG, 27 at RG, 2 at RT) …

We all saw Paul Mubenga struggle mightily getting thrown in the mix last season but we also saw him get better & better each game he played. Also saw the offensive line play much better as a unit in the bowl game & that wasn't with the additions of Moore & Thompson yet. Weston Davis has really good potential & upside.

Let's not forget the addition of Alex Atkins as TE/Run Game Coordinator.

quote:

He joined the Seminoles in 2020 as offensive line coach for two years. He added offensive coordinator duties in 2022 and in his first season directing the Florida State offense, the Seminoles won 10 games and ranked No. 10 nationally in total offense with 484 yards per game.

quote:

From 2016-18, Atkins was Tulane’s assistant head coach and offensive line coach. He added running game coordinator responsibilities his final season in New Orleans. In his first season with the Green Wave, he helped direct a remarkable turnaround from the 118th rushing team in the country in 2015 at 115.8 yards per game to the NCAA’s 26th-best rushing attack in 2016 with an average of 228.1 yards per game. The improvement continued in 2017 as Tulane averaged 231.5 rushing yards per game, No. 20 in FBS. In his final year with the Green Wave, Tulane won seven games and the Cure Bowl behind an offense that posted the 23rd-highest rushing average in the country at 218.2 yards per game.

You have this hard on, wanting the offensive line to be bad this season when truth be told, everything points to being the opposite of that.
