Dave Aranda may be the biggest unsung hero in LSU Football History

It is absolutely insane how great of a defensive coordinator Dave Aranda was at LSU. He is easily the best defensive coordinator in school history and IMO one of the best coaches, regardless of position, in the 130 year history of our program. Everything that has happened since has pretty much helped prove that.
It is hilariously going back to 2019 and seeing all the retards led by one The Pirate King feeding the propoganda that he was holding Ed Orgeron back and that he was going to cost us a national championship. "FiRe ARaNdA!!!!"
Aranda's 4 years at LSU resulted in:
2016 - 5th ranked defense in the nation
2017 - 14th ranked defense in the nation
2018 - 26th ranked defense in the nation
2019 - 33rd ranked defense in the nation
The year before Aranda:
2015 - 41st ranked defense in the nation (Kevin Steele)
The year after Aranda:
2020 - 99th ranked defense in the nation (Bo Pelini)
In 2021, we are sitting with the 108th ranked defense in the nation after 1 game. Sure that can improve but I will bet my life that we don't see a top 40 defensive season.
Let's not forget that Aranda did all of this during the evolution of the spread offense in the SEC and the nation. He did this without Les Miles running clock on offense which meant fewer defensive plays for the defense. Ed Orgeron owes this job to Dave Aranda. Without a stout defense in 2016 the idiot O doesn't get this job.
Aranda literally helped keep this ship afloat IN SPITE of our head coach. IMO, he is the one that really held this program together. Aranda had 100% control of the defense in his 4 years here. He didn't allow O to meddle and micromanage him. He was the calm voice to Orgeron's wacko gorilla macho man bullshite.
A great pattern for Orgeron and Ponamsky is shitting on the people who got them where they are. Two con artists who pulled the ultimate con in 2019 but have shown their con ways every season they have been at LSU since. They shite on Culotta and blacklist other journalists (Culotta, Moscona, etc...).
Aranda was so incredible at his job that Orgeron's arrogant arse hated how much praise his assistant coach got and hated that everyone viewed Aranda as an X's and O's genius. What does he do? Throw him under the bus when he leaves and makes promises that our 2020 defense was the best he'd seen in August 2020. He was so arrogant that he switched to a 4-3 because he perceived that Aranda was holding the team back with the 3-4. Orgeron wanted the praise. He wanted a 4-3 to "attack" yet it is becoming harder and harder to run that formation in modern college football.
You know O switching to a 4-3 was a big "frick that motherfricker" moment from Orgeron to Aranda (who hilariously saved Orgeron's arse repeatedly). O thought he could just switch defenses and it would work because he thinks himself as superior to Aranda. frick O.
We owe a shite ton to Aranda for not allowing this program to fall to very bad depths from 2016 to 2019).

Anyone who thinks Dave Aranda wasn't good shouldn't be able to post on this website.

I think you’re thinking of Coach Chris

Consistently got worse as his system was implemented?

He has a chance but so far there is no indication he can match Orgeron.

I mean a lot of this is speculation, but I think its pretty obvious that Aranda was pulling way more than his fair share of the weight and deserves a ton of credit for the work he and his defenses did especially during the National Championship year where his defense was asked to play close to twice the amount of snaps they ever did any year before. Will watch his future with interest going forward.

What were other SEC schools ranked over this same period?

I'm not calling for him to be the head coach
I'm pointing at how badly shitting on Aranda and "doing it my way" has hurt Orgeron.

I LOL’d. But you’re not wrong. The players responded well to Aranda’s style of teaching. And with Aranda, even when other teams would put up some points, I never felt like it was because we were being outschemed or the players were confused.

Yeah. I much prefer the 99th ranked defense in 2020 and the 108th ranked defense in 2021.
I much prefer a defense that doesn't know basic assignments or how to cover basic routes and how to tackle.

SEC offenses with the best recruiting classes only became better during that time. We turned into a passing lesgue where every program has some stud QB.

60% Brady
40% Aranda
0% Orgeron

Piss poor argument. I am not advocating for going and hiring the man as our head coach, I think our future is with and offensive coach that can run his offense in a way to make the defense successful (think the opposite of Lincoln Riley). But he did this while the SEC went through an offensive revolution and awhile LSU completely changed their offensive identity (far before Brady showed up). I think if you judge it well, our defenses we roughly the same each of those years, with maybe 2016 being a little better.

The team lost its fire after Aranda left. He had a much bigger role in this program than what he's been given credit for.

And yet the ignorant half of our fanbase shite on him for whatever reason. Those morons deserve O.
