Daronte is doing a decent job, only gripe is he don't blitz enough

It's a really vanilla defense, they had to go way out of the box just to implement a 3 man DL and cover 3 type of scheme to play MSU. We didnt show anything outside the ordinary against Auburn. It's pretty clear to me Daronte is keeping things very simple, which can maybe help negate defensive breakdowns but it can also be pretty easy to gameplan against and adjust to in game with zero in game adjustments from the defense.

It's a pretty basic bend dont break 4 man front defense. It's clear they are trying their hardest to create a defense easy to play in and limit big plays as much as possible which is what killed us last year.

Why are we still talking about O? He's a dead man walking.

44th in YPP
58th in PPG
4th in TFL

Defense isn’t great, but it’s not the abomination it was last year. If we get better on 3rd down and learn to cover the underneath slant better we’ll be pretty good.

I’d prefer an elite defense, yes, but the offense and inability to run are a bigger reason for the losses.

Coach O needs to hire Napier to take his spot

Napier won't even sniff an interview with Woodard. Woodard would go for a proven, big name hc. Ask Petersen, Fisher, Mulkey, and recently JJ from Arizona.

Defense has been improving and not the problem.

I don’t want him to make the next hire! He needs to go.

But let’s say he does make another hire…question is, who will go to and ask who a
He should hire? He can’t identify good coaches.

the one who lost to Cincinnati
Well how dumb must you look considering Cincinnati was and still is ranked higher than ND. Even at that ND only gave up 24 points. Problem with the loss is they only scored 13.

Our LB missing a free shot on a qb which immediately throws a crucial TD for momentum has nothing to do with the DC that’s on the player

O isn't getting another chance to hire a coordinator...he will have to save his job with these guys

This is correct. And, the only chance we see these guys next year is if LSU simply can't fire him due to financial reasons.

We are hitting rock bottom. It's not clear what rock bottom looks like yet. When Miles was fired, the program itself was in great shape. We really didn't even take a hit in recruiting that year.

This is going to be different. The program is not in great shape. The team has tons of major holes from a talent standpoint and it's going to take a couple of recruiting cycles to fix that...and that's assuming you can recruit at the level you need to. If you hire the right guy, it still may take 3-4 years to get back where we were at the end of Miles' tenure.

And, now with NIL, there are other factors that may actually PREVENT LSU from returning to the top echelon of college football.

I've been pleased with the defense. You can't score 19 points at home on 4 trips inside the 15 and expect to win.

Jones, Raymond, and Davis are the only assistants I want to keep from a coaching perspective.

Except that covering a TE and that tackling thing.

Replacing the dc is less important than replacing the oc, which is less important than replacing the head coach.

Mason was a better hire imo, and I said so. And he proved me correct Sat night.

I think the defense has actually had a pulse most of the year. They have gotten better. What is happening on the offense is inexcusable, but then again, who is the HC?

I kinda think we should keep Jones. The defense has been consistently improving and it's just his first year.
