I feel that he was a serviceable QB in the Mile’s era.

Danny Etling started 3 games before Miles was fired. Hard to call it the Mile's era.

However, he did start 21 games in the Orgeron era. I'd put him below Burrow but ahead of Brennan, Johnson, and Finley in that era.

87 posts... joined in 2020? This is the second thread posted about Etling in what, the last two months. So I gotta say it... Hey Danny, yes, the LSU fans appreciate your time here and you were one touch SoB!

Below average to average. He just didn't suck at it. Wasn't going to win many if any games and wasn't going to lose you many games. Not a playmaker from the position. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Listening to hester and Flynn in the morning show talk about etling, they love that guy. As a person at least. Gotta respect him for the career he had.

He was an ideal game manager. Didnt have the biggest arm, but didnt lose any games with big mistakes that I can recall. At the same time wouldnt really win any with his arm. In the back end of the Miles era, was the best behind Mett.

He was a very competent QB under an ancient offense

Etling will forever be the great white hope. He was a QB with average tools that got the most out of his ability.

I totally agree, he was an average QB. Also, hard to forgive him for the Bama game where he made bad passes to WRs even though they were wide-arse open. A good QB would have made those throws to beat Bama

I say, thank god he was here. While he was a good but not great QB,
he made a huge difference when he took over. I cringe to think what our records would have been those years if hadn't been here.

Danny Etling walked so Joe Burrow could run

Gamer and game manager. Nothing elite about him. Above average on his best day. Great Tiger.

I really liked Danny. I can't imagine what those teams would have looked like if he hadn't transferred over. Maybe he looked a lot better to me because he was the bridge after Jennings and Harris, but I thought he made good decisions and was a pretty fricking tough kid.

You put him with better defenses and better coaching, I think he is a top 10 QB at LSU.

I think the word is "solid". he was a very good game manager and probably could have shown more talent with better OC's. He has shown he can play well at the next level so that speaks for itself. Not as talented an arm as Mett and Jamarcus but from the neck up definitely better.

I guess JaMarcus Russel and Matt Flynn do not count.

You’re dead right about Flynn and Russell. I forgot about them.

So because I do tend to be that guy...

Of those two only Matt Flynn was actually recruited by Les...

Flynn was above average too. I guess Danny’s ceiling would’ve been similar to Flynn’s 07 season.

His lack of ability to recruit QBs was astounding considering his overall great recruiting.

I'm not sure you could win a championship with a team full of Danny Etlings, but you wouldn't have off-the-field problems, academic problems, drug problems, etc., that come with more talented players.

He may have given us a shot at bama in the 2012 BCSCG

Did you go to LSU in 1972 or were you born in 72?

What’s the reason for 72 in your name. Just curious!

Flynn came in the same class as Russell. They were both recruited by Saban and Jimbo.
