I feel better about this year.

Simply because I think the defense improves to top 40 with DL & DB additions.

Oline will be different but who knows, maybe they can run block better than the last unit. Not blaming the players entirely. Coaching needs to improve them.

I think we may have the most balanced team Kelly has had, but we’re not as talented as 2023

Correct, between he and his Dad the last 20 years if they had predicted LSU games accurately we’d be 280-0.

OL and WR is pure wishful thinking. OL won’t be better. WR nobody knows.

I wouldn’t be shocked if OL is better. They were very underwhelming this year, especially in run blocking. It could be addition by subtraction when we move on to new guys who are more hungry and maybe even more talented.

WR will be 100% better in 2025. They were mediocre at best throughout 2024. It was the weakest WR group we had in years.

I like Dandy Don, he is the most optimistic LSU fan I have ever come across. I've never seen him pick LSU to lose, not even once with his weekly picks.

Too many unknowns still, especially in the defensive back field and the OL.

The transfer portal, on paper, was a good haul, but this has to be coached and transferred to the field.

I think with Weeks and Perkins back healthy and Breaux and McKinley on the DL and Guillory coming Back we will have a good formula to stop the run and the screens, but the backfield has to show they can stop the big play.

Lol. We had some incredibly bad position groups in 2023. We can absolutely be better in 2025.

What are all you pessimistic Debbie downers smoking right now?

I never said we can’t be better. I just said that we’re not as talented as the 2023 team that had Jayden, BTJ, Nabers, Mason, Campbell, Jones, Perkins, Smith, Wingo, Jefferson, Speights all on the same team. I absolutely think we can be better. I’m hopeful this is a playoff team that has a championship window next season.

2023 was a ridiculously talented team that was wasted between the combination of bad defensive coaching, bad luck with coaching changes and injuries and failure to plug a few key holes in the offseason.

By better I meant more talented, which I think will be the case this year in 2025. We won’t have many weak position groups that are void of talent like 2023 had.

Funny I’ve noticed that as well. In my decade of reading him I don’t remember anytime he picked LSU to lose. I’ll always remember him saying we had the advantage in most position battles vs Bama in 2020.

Will we? OT was very overrated in preseason last year. Physically weak in the running game.

I think the OL could be better next year. We will not have a Will Campbell -capable pass protector, but all across the OL the talent will be more even and
at the three IOL positions, better.
I look for improvement all across the OL in run blocking.
We will need a RB for short yardage, Maybe Kaleb will improve.
Every position group on defense looks better and deeper.
I like our transfer QB, but we are thin at this position and if Nuss gets hurt, we can pack it in and talk about '26.

I agree, but OT is not a position group. The OL as a whole will probably be better. Especially compared to the 2nd half of the season without Dellinger

Ehh, depends. They're separated on recruiting websites and are valued higher than their IOL counterparts at the top levels of the sport.

OL, even with new guys, is breaking in two new tackles who are replacing big time NFL prospect tackles. There will be growing pains there.

I stopped reading Dandy Don about 10 years ago. Way too much of a homer for my liking.

If you look at the OL as a whole instead of specific positions on the OL, then yes, LSU should be better in every area next year except TE where it could be a wash.

Not even close at OT.

According to the Rant Brain Trust, Campbell is the worst OT in the history of the sport.

Here's Mike's exact take on the Oline tackles:
quote:

While the O-line looks stronger on the interior, losing Will Campbell and Emery Jones at the tackle spots leaves some big shoes to fill. Those two were elite in pass protection. How big of a challenge will it be to replace them?

Mike: That’s the biggest concern for me on offense. That’s why Josh Thompson might be best suited for the right tackle spot.

I have always liked Tyree Adams. He’s an excellent athlete, long-armed, and he’s physical. And he moves his feet well for such a tall offensive lineman — a good left tackle prospect.

Let’s see the development of Weston Davis at right tackle and Ory Williams at left tackle.

It will be very hard to replace Will Campbell and Emery Jones, and what happens if and when injuries occur?

The biggest concern on offense is on the edges along the offensive line at both tackle spots.
