+8 today. After having some of the lead and coming into the day in 2nd place. Wow.

I’d call that a disaster round.

Obviously pulling for the guy too.

Sam is an excellent professional golfer. He hasn't built up the mental aspect of being a professional closer yet.

Seems like he’ll be more of a Fleetwood type, hangs around a lot but never really seriously contends

That’s not a bad thing, he’ll make a frick ton of money

It happens, especially in the weather they played in over the weekend.

At least he didn’t have a leaked YP vid.

Silver lining.

Agree. Hope he is learning how to win. Got to get there to learn so hopefully he learns like Schauflle has. X went a long time without winning a major before he has now won 2 in same year. Hopefully Burns learns that as well.

Burns has already won waaaaaaay more than Fleetwood (who has never won on the PGAT yet). Id say he’ll be more like a Toms or Rose where he will find his moment and win one major. He is still young and has plenty of time. He keeps putting himself in contention, it will happen

I agree, things can change. But I don't like that comparison. Xander had been knocking on the door of winning a major for quite a while. Sam as a whhole has been pretty bad in majors. One top 10 finish in 16 tries and misses the cut almost as often as he makes it. Xander had six top 10's in his first 16 majors and has only missed a cut twice in the 6 years he's been playing in majors, almost always finishing at least in the top 20.

Xander has performed much better than Sam in majors, even prior to winning his first.

Xander is older, and has had more opportunities. If Burns contends in more majors, he could get more comfortable in majors.

Guys like Tom Kite, Bernhard Langer, Paddy Harrington, Payne Stewart, Vijay Singh, etc, waited many years before winning a major.

Burns has won 5 PGA tournaments, so he is not a flash in the pan. All that remains is for him to start contending regularly and to win a major.

Or he could be a Luke Donald, Lee Westwood, Colin Montgomery kinda guy. A fixture in the Ryder/President's Cup and no majors.

Xander had 12 major top 10s before winning this year

Burns has had 1 major top 10. So no, not like Schauffele

Sam has plenty of time. But he isn’t like DJ, or Xander, or Phil, or Sergio etc who all took time to win majors. Those guys took time but were knocking on the door constantly at the majors

Sam hasn’t at all yet. He can turn it around but there is no reason to pretend his major performances haven’t been very poor

Sam surpassed 4 million in winnings so he's hanging in there...

That's why I compared Xander's first 16 majors to Burns first 16. Xander had 7 top 10's, 12 top 20's, and only 2 missed cuts. Burns has had one top 10, one top 20, one WD, and six cuts.

They aren't even remotely comparable. Again, I'm not making the argument that Sam will never win one, I hope he does, but it's not a great comparison. Xander had been very good in majors his entire time on tour, if we take LSU blinders off, Sam has been very bad in majors.

His approach game is no where near good enough to win a major.

Great putter, great around the green, can hit it far, average driving accuracy.

Approach game is average, which is where the truly elite separate themselves. Scottie needs to help his bud out here.

Edit -- he'll make a sh*t ton of money though!
