I played against Dalton in high school. Man among boys! Although we beat them each year for district

quote:Hilliard was one of the hardest hitting LSU backs ever. His legs were tree trunks and he was MAYBE 5’7.5” at 200 lbs with an amazing low center of gravity running style. That’s why in the pros he would just shrug his shoulders and get back up.
Big azz pads

shite, I looked at it at first and thought it was Notre Dame

Hilliard wasn’t the fastest but he had great vision and could make people miss .

Probably, but JD5 had wicked moves too, esp for a QB. What he did to Florida should be illegal.

Yes. That was the Night it Rained Oranges. I was a student at that time and I consider game as the high point of my time in the student section.
No it was not. LSU still wore white at home in 1982. LSU didn't start wearing purple at home until the rule change in 1983. LSU lost this game 40 to 35. I remember my Dad and I left the game when early down 33-14 but by the time we got to our vehicle LSU had made a comeback and almost won. It was the last time we ever left a game early. I was like 9 years old at the time. It was day game too.
Great picture. #21 is one of my all time LSU favorites.

Was and always will be my favorite running back. His low center of gravity, shiftiness, and toughness were amazing. Great guy as well.

Big arse knee pads and thigh pads too even though Dalton didn't need thigh pads. He had tree trunks
I was a bag boy at the Delchamps on Burbank in summer of 1985 and Hilliard came in one day after practice wearing those 80s short shorts. His legs were freakish. He was a nice guy, btw.

Had two cousins that graduated from Patterson High school in the 1980's I thought it was cool as shite seeing all his stuff and accomplishments when I attended their graduation at the high school. I was a fan the first year I watched on the field at LSU those cuts were just amazing.

Thanks.
That was my wife's first game in Tiger Band on the flag line (though I don't think she is in this picture and she doesn't show up on the telecast either.)
GEAUX TIGERS!

I remember taking my grandson who was in college at the time to that game.

Played against him in high school. I was a senior playing linebacker and he was a sophomore. Stared at him prior to the snap and then he disappeared at the snap and was passing me one second later! Later I hit him with a perfect form tackle and he dragged me for 20 yards then I let go and he scored. When my coach screamed at me asking me why I let him go, I told the truth, "Coach he didn't slow down!"

My dad would always tell me DH Sr. was a bad man for the Tigers and the Saints. Played with his son, Dalton Hilliard Jr., in high school at Brother Martin. Was about 5'-6" but outran everybody on the field. He was clocked at a 4.22 or 4.25 40 ( I forget, but he was fast). He had big legs like his dad and could squat 500 lbs. When he ran, every stride was like 4 yards - he glided across the field. It was a pleasure watching him. I truly believe if he was a few inches taller, he could've gone D1.
Dalton Jr. unfortunately died of cancer in 2020. RIP.
ETA: We couldnt pass the ball at all, so Jr. did most of the heavy lifting. Led us to a perfect district season.

There was another back onthat team with Dalton at Patterson, last name Butler. Was a BEAST as well. I will tell you, the only reason we beat them my JR year, Dalton was a SR, is that we broke his ankle. I said "we" because it was a complete cheap shot by one of my teammates. Dalton had 125 yards in the 1st Q. The broken ankle came in the beginning of the 2nd. That year we made it to the Championship game. First time for the Superdome Classic in 81' and we lost to JC 21-17. Curtis went up 21-0 in the 1st Q.
Big hair all the way around in the 80s
