Bingo. LSU basketball kicked arse in the 80's. Fan interest will never be that high again

I’m not saying we’ve reached it yet, but there’s been glimpses that our basketball fanbase is hungry and wants a winner here that Wade is giving us the past few years

Wade probably can, but todays fanbase is much different and the fervor of those Brown teams will never be the same.

Culotta is the one who said Dale is the one telling Dickie V shite… but Cullota’s bball source is usually CWW itself so it leads me to believe Wade thinks Dale was the one

don’t hate him, but he doesn’t deserve having the court named after him.

Although I think naming courts after someone is generally stupid and Dale stayed a little too long at LSU, the program he created was remarkable. The fact that he took a complete turd of a program and turned it into a winner that made it to the tournament consistently was one thing, but the awesome atmosphere he created at the PMAC and how he sold LSU basketball and the sport in general in Louisiana was unprecedented.

It seems impossible that LSU held the regular season basketball attendance record for any basketball game for many years for the 60,000+ in the Dome, but the fact that 3 of the top 5 regular season attendances still belong to LSU for games in the Dome is unbelievable. He marketed and sold the program like no other.

Now, Brown clearly lacked X and O expertise (as he has said himself), he liked to hear himself talk too much and he never won a national championship, but he called the NCAA out for their hypocrisy while creating one hell of an exciting program with great memories that last to this day. They don't even let teams in the tourney host rounds now due to LSU's environment back in the day. The reason LSU basketball came to have any expectations was due to what Dale Brown accomplished.

No way in hell anything at LSU gets named after Nick Saban. Winning a championship isn't everything. Being consistently great is courageous.

If you look at Dale Brown's videos - the arena is bright and packed and we're battling elite teams, holding our own, every year. That's how it was. Kentucky, Georgetown, UNLV, Duke, Arizona, Loyola-Marymount ... we played the best teams in the country. We didn't win every game in that era but we showed up ready to play every night against the best of the best and fought hard to the buzzer. And we did win many big games.

If it's a 'generational' issue - no LSU fans in the 80s felt the need to disparage Pete Maravich. You take expectations from the past and build on them. If you can surpass them, go ahead. If you disrespect or try to diminish expectations ... don't expect any more validation than what social media can provide.

That’s irrelevant to me. I think there should be a high standard for honors like that (national championships) and he hasn’t met them. There’s no rule that you have to name your court after your most successful coach.

I don’t know if you were living under a rock a couple years ago. But Dick vitale would always tweet out NOA, just a couple days before players make commitments. None of these which have yet to come to fruition.

I'm very well aware of this.

This is what I'm asking you to provide us with something showing this happened though.

You obviously were not around in the '70's and '80's. Dale took a really bad program and put it on the map rather quickly. The center on his first team, nicknamed The Hustlers, was 6'2" Wade Evans. When he picked up Hondo Hanson and then Kenny Higgs we all knew something good was brewing.

And then we started beating Kentucky. You'll never understand how much fun it was when we'd pull the upset in front of 14,000 Tiger fans. UK would usually have a few hundred come down with them. That game when all our starters fouled out...unbelievable.

The crazy tournament runs, Loyola Marymount, Georgetown in the dome, driving around Louisiana and donating a brand new net to every basketball goal in every driveway he saw, including mine. The man put LSU basketball on the map through hard work and determination.

He deserves this honor!

So what likely happen is yes, Brown did have communications with long time acquaintance, Dick Vitale. And it is likely in those communications Brown overstepped the breath and depth of his actual knowledge of the current basketball program to which Vitale took and ran with it...to the detriment of Wade's program. I don't get the sense Brown dislikes Wade (or did at the time). I just get the sense Brown thinks he has more knowledge of the innerworkings of the current program than he does, and he's not unwilling to speculate as to things of which he has no actual knowledge.

So in other words Dale Brown as a proven elite coach spoke to Dick about what he would do different with the program if it were in his hands and not Wade's?

I'm confused? I guess the only elite coaches with any opinion are TD posters?

Absolutely, saw it and if anyone had any doubts that should settle it.

Brown has pretty much quit coming to games and early in WW's tenure he'd be at all of them.

I don't pretend to know the reasons but if - and yes it's a big if because I have no idea - if it's because of perceived recruiting improprieties, that would be very hypocritical and ironic.
